Kenyan stew "Karanga"
Let's eat Kenyan food

At the Kenyan restaurant "Matthewkou's Buffalo Cafe" in Osaki Hirokoji, Tokyo, you can eat delicious rice that is a little different at a reasonable price. At lunchtime, the Kenyan stew "Karanga" is good.

Matthew Ko's Buffalo Cafe is located on Yamate-dori from Osaki Hirokoji Station or Gotanda Station and heading west. It's a cafe-style shop that you can easily enter, and even people from Kenya are fluent in Japanese. If you ask, they will explain the menu in detail.

The standard lunchtime menu is "Karanga". There are beef and chicken, and chicken is popular in Kenya, but many shops ask for beef. I was at a loss, but I made beef. The price is 900 yen (tax included, same below).

Refreshing Kenyan black tea

While I was waiting, Kenyan tea came out at lunch service. When I drank it, the scent was low, but it had no bitterness or swelling, but it was not thin, and it had a black tea-like flavor. Perfect for iced tea. My throat was dry, so when I dried it in a breath, it gave me a refill, and I felt like I got it.

Coconut stew "Karanga"

Beef Karanga. A lot of coconut

Eventually Karunga arrived. The beef that is softly boiled with vegetables is covered with white coconut. It smells exotic. The accompanying rice is also generous.

When you scoop it up with a spoon, the meat crumbles as soon as you make a tooth. It is a foreign dish that the scent of coconut and coconut is scented with each bite, but the seasoning itself is elegant. Eating it with rice is reminiscent of hotel hayashi rice.

Besides beef, it also contains various vegetables

In addition to beef, tomatoes, carrots and green peas are included in a size that is easy to eat. The herb, which has a faint taste like a secret ingredient, is said to be pakuchi (leaf coriander) when asked by the shop staff. It's a surprise that I didn't understand until I was taught, even though it was a herb with distinctive characteristics. There is also a salad, and you can get vegetables with meat and rice.

Mysterious drink "Uzi"

Something like ginger and honey yogurt drink

I was full, but I came to one of the few Kenyan restaurants in Japan, and I asked for another dish, "Uzi". A sweet drink with a choice of ice and hot. I thought about making ice cream, but I heard that it was hot to drink, so I ordered the latter. The price is 500 yen.

What came out was a cream-colored, thick drink that steamed. It's soaked in a glass, and it's a formidable size after lunch. I thought it was done, but it's not easy to retire here.

It's surprisingly easy to drink when you're prepared and put your mouth on it. A warm yogurt drink with ginger and honey. It seems that it also contains lemon and milk.

It also contains the grain "Uzi," which is the origin of the name of the drink, such as white corn. It is said that this Uzi is powdered and steamed before being put in. It contains many kinds of nutrients such as vitamins.

After all, it may be a little too voluminous for lunch dessert. However, it was rare and delicious.
