Azuki Bar Arranged Recipe "Azuki Bar Gomoku Gohan (Rice with Five Meatballs)"

Imuraya's "Azuki Bar" is an ice cream that you will want to eat all year round, not to mention during the hot summer season. I love it, too, but I heard that it can be used not only for tasting as it is but also for cooking...!


Among the various recipes introduced on the official website, I tried the "Azuki Bar Gohame Gohan" (I couldn't believe my eyes for a moment, either!)! (I couldn't believe my eyes for a moment, but I'm sane.)

Azuki bar Gomoku Gohan Ingredients

Based on the recipe on the official website, here is what we prepared.

1 Imuraya Azuki Bar (65ml (2.2us fl oz))
2 cups rice
300ml (10.14us fl oz) water
1 chicken thigh
About 15cm burdock root
About 1/3 carrot
About 1/4 pack shimeji mushroom
3 tablespoons soy sauce

Azuki Bar Gomoku Gohan Directions

Wash and drain rice, combine with 300ml (10.14us fl oz) water, place in rice cooking pot and leave for 30 minutes.


Cut chicken thighs into 1 to 2 cm cubes, carrots into coarsely chopped (or finely diced) pieces, and burdocks into thin strips (or finely chopped or thinly sliced) after washing well.




Remove any stones from the shimeji mushrooms and break them into pieces.


Add 3 tablespoons soy sauce to the rice cooker with rice and water, mix, and spread all the cut meat and vegetables on top.



Finally, top with a whole "azuki bar". Don't hesitate to go all out. Then turn on the rice cooker!


When the rice is done cooking, remove the "azuki bar" bars (wooden sticks), mix everything together, and serve!

Azuki Bar Gomoku Gohan (Rice with Five Meatballs) How does it taste?

What wait crazy good this...! The aroma is just regular takikomi-gohan, but when you try it, there is a slight azuki flavor, like red rice, which melds with the delicious chicken and mushrooms, and it's excellent!


The sweetness of the azuki bar plays the role of mirin or sugar, which are also commonly used in takikomi-gohan, and is in perfect balance with the saltiness of the soy sauce. There is no sweetness at all, just a delicious takikomi-gohan with a faint, fluffy aroma like that of red rice! It is a delicious taste that adults and children alike would enjoy!
