Toho Seika "Potato Fries

I was like, "What? They are still sold? The company reported the discontinuation of Izumi Seika's "Potato Snacks" in 2013. However, the company is still selling the "Potato Fries" brand.

A check of Touhou Seika's official website reveals that there are three flavors currently available: Fried Chicken Flavor, Karubiyaki Flavor, and Jaga Shio Butter. I found them at a nearby convenience store and supermarket, so I compared them.

Fried Chicken Flavor

The most familiar is the "Fried Potato Fries Fried Chicken Flavor. The official Web site describes it as "an authentic flavor with the aroma of freshly fried chicken and spicy garlic and ginger.


Crunchy, crispy, with a hint of garlic flavor. Oh, this is it! This texture! The perfect thickness and candy-like flavor with a light crunchy texture. The perfect amount for those times when you want a bag of chips but don't need a whole bag. Everything is "just right.

Karubiyaki Flavor

Next, "Fried Potatoes - Karubiyaki Flavor". At first, I thought, "Hmm? Isn't it not so different from fried chicken?" But the more you bite into it, the more the roasted meat taste spreads. The saltier the meat, the more addictive the aftertaste. I thought this when I was a child, but once again... it's so delicious!

Potato Salt Butter

Potato Fries Jaga Shio Butter" is made to resemble the taste of deep-flavored butter and a hint of salt on a bed of softened potatoes. The taste is sweeter than the others. The buttery flavor spreads softly. It is the most potato-like flavor out of all of them.
