Remove any stones from shiitake mushrooms and place in a frying pan.Place a piece of butter shaved with a knife on top of the shiitake mushrooms.
Pour water into the pan, cover with a lid, and steam over medium heat.
When the butter melts and the shiitake mushrooms soften, remove the lid.
Remove the shiitake mushrooms to a plate and pour soy sauce over the shiitake mushrooms. Sprinkle with pepper to taste.
