Bamboo shoots are often stewed or stir-fried, but I highly recommend simply turning them into steak! Butter and soy sauce enhance the sweetness of the crunchy bamboo shoots in this excellent recipe. Personally, this is my favorite way to eat bamboo shoots!
Bamboo Shoots Steak with Butter and Soy Sauce
IngredientsHere is what you need to prepare.
1 bamboo shoot
1 teaspoon butter
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1/2 tablespoon mirin (sweet cooking rice wine)
You can buy bamboo shoots boiled in water or remove their scum by yourself; adjust seasoning amounts according to the number and size of bamboo shoots.
How to makeCut bamboo shoots into round slices about 1 cm thick and blot dry with kitchen paper. Cut the tips in half lengthwise.
Put the sliced bamboo shoots in a frying pan heated with oil (not included in the quantity) and cook until brown on both sides.
When browned, pour soy sauce and mirin (sweet cooking rice wine) over the top, and finally drop in butter and toss to coat.
Serve in a bowl and voila! Sprinkle with parsley or sprouts, if desired.
