Dorayaki and Chestnut Kinton Dorayaki at Asakusa Umeen, a long-established Japanese sweets store

At a supermarket's community support fair, I found dorayaki from Asakusa Umezono, a long-established Japanese sweets store! I actually bought one and tried it. The price is 250 yen per piece (tax not included).

Asakusa Umezono, a long-established Japanese sweets store

Asakusa Umezono is a long-established Japanese confectionery store located in Asakusa. It was first established in 1854, when it opened a teahouse in a corner of Ume-zono-in, a branch temple of Senso-ji Temple. It is a member of the Tohto Norenkai and Asakusa Umamono Kai.

I bought a Dorayaki and a Chestnut Kinton Dorayaki. Each piece is large and filled with red bean paste all the way to the edge.

Dorayaki

Dorayaki is made with bean jam. They are sticky and sweet. The texture of the azuki beans is just right.

The skin is dense and moist. The overall weight is heavy and the volume is perfect. The sweetness lingers on your tongue for a while after you swallow it, so it goes well with green tea! One piece is quite satisfying, but for some people, half a piece might be just right.

Kurikinton Dorayaki

Kurikinton Dorayaki is a dorayaki with chestnut branding on the skin. The dough is made with brown sugar and has a sweet finish.

The red bean paste is a combination of white bean paste and chestnut kinto, and you can enjoy the texture of the chestnuts from time to time. Both the crust and the red bean paste are sweet, so it would be better if the crust was a bit lighter, but it's a great combination for those with a sweet tooth. If you like kurikinton, you'll love this!
