It is said that the large dining room on the upper floor of the department store was once a children's paradise. Now that the restaurant area where specialty stores are gathered has become mainstream, it is rarely seen. There is a long-established department store in Hanamaki City, Iwate Prefecture, where such a valuable dining room remains. Marukan Department Store (Marukan Department Store). The large dining room on the 6th floor is a spot that can be said to be a specialty of Hanamaki.
The author (young lady) who visited Hanamaki at the end of February was finally able to go to Marukan department store, which I had been interested in for a long time.
Surrounded by warm orange lighting, the interior creates an atmosphere that can be said to be Showa Retro or Showa Modern. The window is covered with glass. Befitting the name of the large dining room, you can overlook the streets of Hanamaki.
Orders are by meal ticket system, but there is no ticket vending machine. Look at the food samples lined up in front of the elevator, select them, and have them hand over your food tickets at the food ticket office. Soba, udon, ramen, curry, naporitan, hamburger steak, sushi, rice bowl, parfait ... the menu is extremely rich!
The author ordered the specialty menu "soft serve" that gives off a glaring presence at the same store. If you go to Malkan, or even Hanamaki, you should definitely eat it.
After a few minutes of sitting down, handing the meal ticket to the floor staff and waiting, the soft serve ice cream arrived. The height is about 25 cm, and it is really huge with 10 steps! Even if you put it side by side with a bottle of grated cheese or disposable chopsticks on the table, its height stands out. With this, the price of 180 yen (tax included) is surprisingly cheap.
Put the cone in a rare silver cup stand (?) And go round. It takes about 3 months to learn how to wrap a soft serve ice cream with an exquisite balance.
Perhaps because it's too big, it's Hanamaki style to eat with disposable chopsticks while it's on the table. The balance between the rich richness and the refreshing aftertaste is wonderful and delicious. The longed-for Malkan soft serve ice cream was a feast.
However, it has been about 40 years since the store was opened in the current location. It was reported that the store will finally close here as well. It is said that the store will close on June 7 due to the aging of the building. There are no plans to relocate so far, and the large dining room is scheduled to be closed.
While I was impressed that I was finally able to go, the news that the store closed suddenly jumped in. Fans all over the country are also regrettable. Will the department store cafeteria, which is full of memories, disappear as it is?
