Sanseisha "Pineapple Sponge Cake

I was shopping at the supermarket when I spotted a product that caught my eye! Pineapple Castella" sold by Mitsuboshi. The purchase price is 298 yen (tax not included).

Pineapple Castella" is a sponge cake flavored with the popular "Pineapple Candy". Each bag contains four slices.

Convenient individual packaging

As soon as you open the seal, the aroma of pineapple spreads. It looks like an ordinary sponge cake, but when you actually try it... oh my! Pineapple candy more firmly than expected! The sourness, sweetness, and aroma are the same as when you roll a candy in your mouth.

Pineapple candy already from the aroma

The dough is soft and fluffy in the mouth, and a little bit brittle, but not to the point of being bothersome. The more you chew, the more the pineapple candy flavor gradually intensifies. The appearance, texture, and initial taste on the tongue are definitely "sponge cake," but when you bite into it, it tastes like "pineapple candy. It is a strange feeling.

The more you chew, the more pineapple candy... amazing...

It is delicious as it is, but the sweetness of the pineapple seems to float a little. I thought, "Maybe it would taste better cold." So I chilled it in the freezer for about two hours to try it out.

I chilled it.

As it turns out, it tastes better chilled! The texture of the dough becomes moist and stuffy as it freezes. The sweetness of the pineapple, which seemed to be floating in the dough, was also freshened up, resulting in a more refreshing taste. Of course, it depends on your taste, but I think the pineapple flavor comes through more in the chilled sponge cake.

Moist and fresh

According to an inquiry to Sansei-sha, Pineapple Castella is a summer-only product. It was first sold in supermarkets nationwide about four years ago, but this is the first time I have seen it. Is it a little bit rare? If you see it, please pick it up!
