Toraya "Airport Limited Small Yokan

Toraya "Airport Limited Small Yokan

One of the signature products of the Japanese confectionary store "Toraya" is yokan, or sweet bean jelly. I found this limited edition "Airport Limited Small Yokan" at Haneda Airport, priced at 1,300 yen (excluding tax) for a pack of five.

The paper package is smooth to the touch and has a large design of an airplane on it. The package is blue in spring and summer, and red in fall and winter, depending on the season.

In addition to the standard "Kokura Yokan Yoru no Ume (Night Plum)," "Matcha Yokan Shinmoku (Green Tea Yokan)," "Honey Yokan Hachimitsu (Honey Yokan)," and "Brown Sugar Yokan Omokage (Brown Sugar Yokan Omokage)," there is the airport-exclusive "White Red Bean Yokan Sora no Tabi (Sky Journey). All of them are made of sugar, red beans, and agar, and are said to take an hour to bake, including the cooking time.

Sora no Tabi was invented after being inspired by the beauty of the sunset sky seen from the window of an airplane. The red yokan is sprinkled with white azuki beans to represent the clouds floating in the sunset sky.

Beautiful gradation.

The surface of the bright yokan is smooth and slippery. The surface of the yokan is smooth and slippery, and it melts on the tongue, spreading the soft sweetness of the beans. The white azuki beans floating in some places accentuate the flavor. It's as if you're sipping on a beautiful sunset sky.

The new green tea with matcha has an impressive refreshing aroma. The taste of matcha can be felt after the beans are chewy. It has a rich flavor with a hint of astringency at the end.

The "Night Plum," which allows you to fully enjoy the azuki beans, the "Honey" with its mild sweetness, and the "Omokage" with its richness are also delicious. They are perfect with Japanese tea, and each bite is soothing and delicious.

Toraya's yokan are rare and only available at the airport. How about a memory of your "air travel"?
