Ethnic food is gaining popularity these days, and the Vietnam Festival is just around the corner. If it was a waste to leave it unmarked, the En-eating editorial department went to a Vietnamese restaurant and ate it!
I went to the BANH XEO Saigon Shinjuku store. Originally located in Mylord Shinjuku, it was relocated and reopened on June 10th. As you can guess from the store name, the signboard menu here is "Banh xeo".
I was surprised to see the plate that came. On a plate that is big enough to hold, there are yellow things and vegetables that are just overhanging. The yellow one is rice flour mixed with coconut juice and turmeric. It is said that this is spread thinly, baked with the ingredients, wrapped in the attached leafy vegetables, and eaten with sauce (it is said to be "Nuk Cham"). It wasn't an omelet wrapped in thinly roasted eggs.
I ate a new menu "Pakuchi!" That wasn't in the Mylord era. When I flipped the dough over, I found plenty of bean sprouts and coriander. I'm happy for coriander lovers! Put these on the leaves, add the sauce and pakuri. The dough has a firm center with respect to the outside of the crispy, and when chewed, the sweet scent of coconut spreads softly. And the sweet and sour but tangy and peppery sauce complements the simple seasoning ingredients.
If you run out of vegetables to roll, refill! It seems that you can refill once for free at the same store. By the way, even if you wrap fried spring rolls with sauce and eat it, it's GOOD. It's delicious so give it a try.
The store is located on the 6th and 7th floors of Kawano Annex Building, 3-36-14 Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo. Business hours are from 11:00 to 23:00 (last order 22:30).
Vietnam Festival 2015 will be held at Yoyogi Park (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) on June 13th and 14th. Banh Xeo Saigon, who visited us this time, will also sell "Mini Banh Xeo". If you plan to go, please enjoy delicious Vietnamese food and Vietnamese culture!
