Convenience Store Salmon Onigiri Comparison

Comparison of Salmon Rice Balls at

Convenience Stores We compared "salmon" rice balls (omusubi) sold at three convenience stores (7-ELEVEN, FamilyMart, and Lawson).

The three types purchased this time were 7-ELEVEN's "Temaki Onigiri Charcoal Grilled Aged Red Salmon", FamilyMart's "Temaki Red Salmon", and Lawson's "Temaki Onigiri Hokkaido Autumn Salmon".

7-ELEVEN

's "Temaki Onigiri Charcoal Grilled Aged Benishake Salmon" 7-ELEVEN's "Temaki Onigiri Charcoal Grilled Aged Benishake Salmon" is a rice ball with a filling of chargrilled, aromatic benishake salmon. The price is 165 yen (excluding tax).

7-ELEVEN "Temaki Onigiri Charcoal Grilled Aged Red Shake

It has 175 calories and weighs 107 grams (not including the weight of the plate, same as below).

7-ELEVEN "Temaki Onigiri Charcoal Grilled Aged Red Shake

Compared to other companies, the rice balls seem to be more fluffy. At the first bite, you can already smell the aroma of salmon before you even get to the ingredients! I wonder if this aroma is the reason why it is called "charbroiled"? The aroma is very good, and the saltiness is well balanced.

Famima Tem

aki

Beni Sh

ake Famima's "Temaki Beni Shake" omusubi with seared natural sockeye salmon. The price is 153 yen.

Famima "Temaki Beni Shake" (red salmon)

It has 174 kcal and weighs 104g (3.67oz).

Famima "Temaki Beni Shake" (red salmon)

The rice is slightly firm and solid. If I may say so, I feel the ingredients are a little lacking. It is not too salty and has no peculiar taste, so it is easy to eat for both adults and children. It is a simple salmon rice ball.

Lawson's "Temaki-Onigiri Hokkaido Autumn

Salmon

" is a standard item that features the original flavor of the salmon wrapped in the mashed salmon meat. It is made with "Hokkaido Autumn Salmon. The price is 148 yen.

LAWSON "Temaki Onigiri: Hokkaido Autumn Salmon
hand-rolled rice ball - Hokkaido salmon

It has 174 kcal and weighs 116g (4.09oz).

LAWSON "Temaki Onigiri: Hokkaido Autumn Salmon

While 7-ELEVEN's rice is softly wrapped, Lawson's rice is tightly packed. The nori (seaweed) is crispy and has a strong presence. The filling has a "salmon flake" feel to it, with just the right amount of saltiness. This is a good choice when you want a dense rice ball.

The cross sections are as shown in the image (from left to right: 7-ELEVEN, Famima, Lawson). Personally, I recommend 7-ELEVEN's onigiri, which looks as if it contains grilled salmon as it is! The savory flavor is a nice accent.
