Beni Imo Butter" from Okinawa

BENI IMO BUTTER" at Ryumin, Naha City, Okinawa

I found a rare "Beni Imo Butter" at a local supermarket that was holding an "Okinawa Fair". You don't see it very often in the Kanto area, do you? I had a hunch it would be delicious, so I bought it. 230g (8.11oz) packet, priced at 594 yen (tax included).

It looks like you can buy it by mail order.

It is sold by Ryumin in Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture. It is a spread made from "Murasaki Masari" sweet potatoes with granulated sugar and butter. Murasaki Masari is a variety used for making sweet potato shochu.

The red potato butter is soft and smooth, somewhere between butter and jam. The bright red-murasaki color gives it a sense of being just the way it is.

Stretch it thickly.

What a rich flavor! The richness of the butter and the sweetness of the red potatoes gently envelop your tongue, and the slight saltiness enhances the taste of the potatoes. The slight saltiness enhances the taste of the taro, and the slight earthy, nature-derived smell is also pleasant. It was less sweet than expected, but delicious!

Tastes like nature.

I recommend toasting the bread after spreading it on the toast instead of spreading it on after toasting. The red potato butter is slightly heated, making it more savory and tasty, just like a red potato tart.

When toasted, it becomes fluffy and fragrant.

I think it would be delicious spread on bread or rusks, or even as a topping for vanilla ice cream! If you miss the taste of Okinawa, please try it.
