Triple Curry" is three cups of rice with curry and rice.

Sky Lounge Dawn, the student cafeteria at Meiji University Surugadai Campus

Meiji University's Surugadai Campus is a 6 or 7 minute walk from JR Ochanomizu Station. Did you know that the student cafeteria is located on the 17th floor of the building? I was curious, so I went there right away.

Here they come!

There are several buildings in a row, but the student cafeteria "Sky Lounge Dawn" is located on the 17th floor of the Liberty Tower. It is a very luxurious dining hall where you can enjoy the view from about 75 meters above the ground.

The system seems to be that you select a meal ticket for the menu you want to eat next to the entrance of the diner and receive your food at the counter.... But...something was wrong...the menu item I was looking for was not there. I had a bad feeling about this, but I asked the woman at the cash register, "Do you have omelette hash? She replied, "We serve egg dishes in shifts, so we don't have any today. What a surprise!

I was in a hurry, as I had come here with the intention of having the most popular menu item, the omelette hash. Looking at the food samples, two items caught my eye: "Triple Curry" and "Triple Tanmen" that stood out conspicuously. As their names suggest, they appear to contain about three servings of rice and noodles.

This bowl...could it be a mortar...?

After much deliberation, I chose the Triple Curry (540 yen including tax). The large plate was so large that one was tempted to say, "Isn't that a tray instead of a plate? The three piles of rice are lined up on a plate of such a large size that one might be tempted to say, "Is this not a tray? If you put your smart phone on the plate, you can see how big it is.

The plate is too big.

Since we were in the mood, we took a seat by the window and started to eat. The fluffy rice was cooked to perfection, and the rich roux was delicious! The sauce is sweet, but not too spicy. The ingredients were cooked to a thick consistency and soaked up the flavor. It reminded me of the curry my grandmother used to make for me.

Yum!

The rice on the far right was easily finished. It was about a bowlful. I immediately started eating the rice in the center. If we take a break here, we may not be able to finish it, so we want to eat it quickly.

Far right, finished!

When I had finished half of the rice in my stomach, I felt a level of satisfaction that would normally make me put down my chopsticks. The speed at which I move the spoon slows slightly, but I continue eating, mixing it with the fukujinzuke pickles. The crunchy texture and slight sweetness added a different taste.

Remaining, 1 and 1/2

With the power of the fukujinzuke, the rice in the center was also finished. The only thing left was the last pile of rice. I was already 9.5 minutes hungry, but since I had ordered it, it was only polite to finish the whole thing. I washed away the remaining curry taste in my mouth with water and silently broke off the mountain of rice.

One more!

I'm already at the halfway point, and it's getting hard. I even feel like I'm exceeding the limit of my stomach. I am eating the same amount of rice at once that I usually eat in the morning, afternoon, and evening, so I must be suffering.

Just... a little... more...!

I looked up and saw the town spread out all around me. We were about 75 meters above the ground. Encouraged by the view, I throw the rest of the rice into my mouth. We finished it! We did it!

The price of 540 yen including tax for such a large portion is quite a high-cost item. It is a great menu item for hungry students. The student cafeteria "Sky Lounge Dawn" at Meiji University's Surugadai Campus offers other interesting menu items such as the "Sundai Special" and the "Health Plate. If I have the chance, I would like to try the "Omelette Hayashi" next time.
