Le Patissier Yokoyama Yatsuya is a restaurant that has received more than four stars on the food log and reigns as the imposing "No. 1 Sweets Ranking in Chiba" (as of April 2015). This store was opened by Tomoyuki Yokoyama, the first chef-patissier to win three consecutive "Cake Craftsman Championships" on "TV Champion" (TV Tokyo).

The store's most popular item is " iwashu," a baked cream puff topped with cookie dough. Rumor has it that it is so popular that you have to wait in line from morning to get one!

The "most popular" at the "number one" sweets store in Chiba Prefecture means, in essence, that it is the " most delicious sweets in Chiba. I couldn't miss it! So I too drove to Le Patissier Yokoyama in the morning!

This time, we headed for the second Okubo store (also with more than 4 stars on the food log), which opened a little later than 10:00 a.m. When we arrived at the store around 11:00 a.m... the two parking lots were almost full!

When I entered the store with trepidation, I saw so many people, who looked so serious that it was hard to believe it was the middle of the morning, choosing cakes!

The population density was amazing despite the spaciousness of the store.

Dozens of brightly colored cakes in the showcase! Reflecting the sparkling light, it is like peering into a jewelry box. From popular roll cakes to fresh cakes to baked goods, everything is tempting...but today's objective is the "rock puff. Somehow, I managed to shake off temptation from all sides and went straight to the cashier, "I want 10 rock puffs, please! I told him.

Only 10 pieces per person can be purchased.

The rock puff seems to be filled with custard cream after receiving an order. At the store, you can watch closely over the counter as the cream is filled into the crust of the rock choux. My 10 pieces were also packed in a box and I went to the checkout.

His brother was injecting custard.

Now, I decided to try the rock puffs I brought home right away.

It has a lovely shape, like a colon, a small rock, or perhaps a bug-head. Cookie crumbles are scattered on the top. When you hold it in your hand, it feels much heavier than expected! This looks promising.

I cut it in half... and inside was a generous dollop of custard cream, so tightly packed that there was no room to spare, it was overflowing!

You can even see the vanilla bean bumps!

The moment you bite into the cream to avoid spilling it. The thick, rich custard cream poured into my mouth like a drink!

The moderately thick puff pastry is crispy and savory, yet moist. The rich sweetness of the custard and the aroma of butter fills the mouth. The crust is not squishy, so it does not lose its shape when you grab it with your hands or bite into it. This moderate hardness adds an extra dimension of deliciousness and palatability.

The concept of cream puffs has changed...!

You will feel so satisfied after eating one that you may think "I don't want cream puffs for a while...", but a few minutes later your mouth and stomach will already be craving the taste. Addictive. I wonder if this is too cheap at 165 yen per piece...

If there are those who think, "It's just cream puffs, it's not much different from any other," then you have been deceived...try it for yourself! You will realize how happy you can be with just one cream puff.
