So, let's have a more reasonable and delicious tempura! "Tempura Yokocho Wabaru", a specialty store for skewer tempura, opened in Sangenjaya, Tokyo. Here, authentic Edomae skewer tempura and a slightly unique variant tempura are offered from 100 yen each.
Tempura Yokocho Wabaru is located in the middle of Suzuran-dori, a 2-minute walk from Sangenjaya Station. When you open the door, you will be greeted by a warm atmosphere that makes you feel relieved even though it is fashionable. There are 30 seats at the counter and table.
● 3 kinds of skewer tempura that you should definitely eat
The restaurant's signature menu, "Kushi Tempura," has four types: "fish and shellfish," "meat," "vegetables," and "unusual species."
The lineup of "fish shellfish" includes the most popular black tiger shrimp (black tiger prawn), kisses, conger eels, and snow crabs. "Meat" includes a little rare black pork kakuni and chicken plum, and "vegetables" include asparagus, which is popular, as well as pumpkin, sardines, and eggplant. And the "variants" that you are interested in include hanpen cheese, natto rolls, and seasoned eggs.
As a result of eating this and that of the menu I was interested in, I chose three " Kushi Tempura that I should definitely eat" at my own discretion! By the way, the skewer tempura comes with tentsuyu and grated daikon radish, and salt is prepared on the table, so you can choose it as you like.
First of all, from "fish and shellfish". Of course, the shrimp is also delicious, but we recommend the conger eel (200 yen). The conger eel wrapped in a crispy batter is plump and thick. When you bite into it, the juicy taste and sweetness spread in your mouth!
Next is "meat-based", black pork kakuni (350 yen). When the batter is crispy, a fluffy kakuni appears from the inside. It was so soft that the fibers would unravel and melt without chewing, and when I noticed, I didn't leave any gravy!
It goes well with Tentsuyu with grated radish, but to enjoy the sweetness of black pork, it may be good to sprinkle only salt lightly.
The last is a seasoned egg (200 yen) from the "unusual". Egg tempura is quite rare, isn't it? Moreover, one whole!
It's already "seasoned", so it's recommended to eat it without adding tentsuyu or salt. When it bites crispy, the soft-boiled yolk melts from the inside (?) As expected. The rich richness spreads throughout your mouth.
The skewered tempura at the restaurant has a slightly thin batter and is not oily, so you can eat all of them crisply. And beer goes on, goes on!
● Tears of smoky potato salad
In addition to tempura, there are many menus where you can drink alcohol.
Among them, "Smoky Potato Salad " (550 yen) lost its word because it was so delicious. Bacon and Iburi-gakko are mixed in a rich-tasting potato salad using potatoes of the "Inca Awakening" variety.
In addition, smoked cheese is also added, and the moment you eat a bite, the mellow and smoky scent fills your mouth! This goes great with sake !!
The crispy, crispy and iburi-gakko texture accentuates the chewy and smooth texture. If you like liquor or smoke, you should definitely eat it!
● Rich but refreshing! Taru Taru Chicken Tang
Another thing I would like to recommend is the "Taru Taru Chicken Tang" (890 yen), which is a combination of fried chicken, tartar sauce with plenty of eggs and onion sauce.
When you put your teeth in a crispy batter, the juicy gravy of chicken overflows from the inside. The more you chew, the more delicious it spreads in your mouth. In addition, the rich tartar sauce with lots of ingredients is put together by the onion sauce, so there is no persistent sweetness!
● A mysterious system where you can drink alcohol at a great price
Here is good news for those who want to drink a lot. At the same store, if you order the same drink repeatedly, the glass will gradually grow in size, such as the second glass rather than the first, and the third glass than the second. Of course the price is the same.
Will it be in the red? All right? I'm just worried about the store, but as long as the customer is happy. If you want to drink a lot, there is no reason not to use this service!
● Alone or in large numbers
At Tempura Yokocho Wababaru, there are many customers who come to drink alone, not to mention couples and friends. There are counter seats, so if you go alone, you will be able to get along with friendly staff and other customers. How about those who have no plans for Christmas yet?
You can drop in on your way home from work and fill your stomach quickly, or you can eat and drink with a spirit of "Now, let's drink today!" The price and atmosphere are casual, so you can relax your shoulders and spend a "delicious time".
In addition, at this time of year, there is also a "year-end party plan" for 3,000 yen (!) With 10 tempura bottles per person and all-you-can-drink. If you want to use it, make a phone reservation.
The store is located on the 1st floor of the Torii Building, 4-22-13 Taishido, Setagaya-ku, Tokyo. Business hours are from 18:00 to 5:00 the next day. Open all year round.
It is open until 5 am, so it can be used for the second party and the third party. I have a feeling that the En-eating editorial department will be indebted again in the near future.
