Have you ever heard of "Zebra Bread," a local favorite in Okinawa? Living in Tokyo, I had never seen or heard of it, but I was given a long-sized piece of zebra bun as a souvenir. It was so big that I thought it contained a zebra doll...


This product was created about 30 years ago when a peanut cream sandwich on baked dough tasted good during product prototyping. It was accepted and became a popular product because peanut butter was generally popular due to the influence of American culture.

From the top, it looks like an ordinary brown bread, but from the side, it looks like a striped bread. The brown sugar flower paste is folded into the dough to create this cross-section. It sure looks like a zebra pattern, doesn't it?


It was so large that I measured it before eating it, and found it to be about 35 cm long and 7 cm thick. It is hard to believe that it is a sweet bread. The price is 600 yen (tax not included).



When you open your mouth wide and bite into it, you are greeted with a fluffy dough. The dough is soft and fluffy when you bite into it, and after that, it disappears in your mouth. What remains is the refined sweetness of brown sugar.

The peanut cream has a savory and mild taste. It is not too sweet, but not too much. The deep richness of the peanuts and brown sugar is a perfect match and addictive! It goes well with milk and coffee.


It is also recommended to eat it lightly toasted. The slightly browned and fragrant dough and the cream, which has become thicker and sweeter as it warms up, are the best. It is quite hearty, but I'm afraid I'll just keep eating it as long as I can't stop myself....
