Actually, this was sold on a trial basis only in the Mitaka / Kichijoji area of Tokyo from the end of February this year. Apparently it has gained popularity, and it seems that it has been sold nationwide this time. By the way, it seems that the types and formulations of some raw materials differ depending on the store (or area), but the basic taste is the same.
Mitaka is a little far away ... and I was happy to go shopping because the matcha old fashion that I had been giving up finally came to the neighborhood 7-ELEVEN.
The surface of the slightly green fabric is coated with white sugar. The shape is crazy, but I like it because it has a feeling of "art is an explosion".
When you grab it, it's "shakutsu". The moderately thick sugar coating enhances the crunchy texture of the dough. And the scent of matcha that spreads enough to chew the moist dough and the slight bitterness. The main taste is the aroma and sweetness peculiar to old fashion, but as you eat, matcha gradually comes out.
If the coating had a matcha flavor, I couldn't help but think that it would have been my favorite, but if you like both "matcha" and "old-fashioned donuts," you'll love it. It goes great with coffee. It's especially perfect with black coffee, so why not take it out as a set for breakfast or snacks?
