The rainy season is over and summer has arrived. It looks like it will be another extremely hot year, and I am sighing now.

To prevent heat stroke, it is important to remember to replenish salt. Recently, there has been a boom in salted sweets, and the aftermath has even spread to local confections.

Saga's Motomura Confectionery is selling a salt-flavored version of Saga's famous confectionery, Maruboro, for the summer season only. Maruboro is a traditional Saga confectionery with a simple sweetness that has been around since the 17th century, when it was introduced from Portugal. And salt? Does it go with salt? You might think so, but...

Saga's famous confectionery, Maruboro, is now available in a salt flavor only during the summer!
Saga's famous confectionery, Maruboro, is now available in a salt flavor only during the summer!

But "only for now" sounds so sweet!

The Maruboro is combined with Okinawan sea salt (Nuchimasu), which is crystallized minerals from the sea. The sweetness of the honey and the saltiness of the Maruboro are perfectly balanced and gently spread on the palate, resulting in a new taste of Maruboro.

Nuchimasu is rich in minerals and has a low-salt flavor that brings out the best in the ingredients. I guess I'll be on my own when I can taste the salt. I still have a long way to go.

The packaging is also somewhat summery.

In addition, 10 winners will be selected by drawing by answering a questionnaire enclosed with the tasting sample to win a 150g (5.29oz) bottle of "Nuchimasu," Okinawan sea salt.

I don't think I can beat the word "limited time offer. I wonder if someone will give it to me as a souvenir from Saga...
