The landing gourmet "Malasada" has been gaining attention recently. It is also called "post pancake", and you can enjoy a new fluffy texture. I went to the procession store "Leonard's" in Yokohama, the editorial department of eating food, which I was wondering if it was a Nanimono!

Is "Malasada" born in Hawaii a Nanimono?

◆ What is Malasada?

Malasada is a popular fried bread in Hawaii. Crispy fried dough sprinkled with sugar. Born in Portugal, it is said that he went to Hawaii with immigrants.

"Leonard's" that I visited this time is a long-established bakery founded in 1952 on Oahu, Hawaii. It is said to be a pioneer of Malasada, and it is said to be the most popular and famous store in Hawaii. In Japan, the first store " Leonard's Yokohama World Porters Store " opened in 2008.

The Yokohama World Porters store was introduced on a TV program the other day, so during the spring break there was a constant line of people waiting for 30 minutes. But on weekday nights when the En-eating editorial department visited, I could buy it almost without lining up.

There are four flavors in all. Two types of simple "Leonard's Malasada" (160 yen each / tax included) and two types of cream-filled "Leonard's Malasada Puff" (220 yen each / same).

◆ Fluffy and simple malasada

First of all, we will have a simple malasada. Two types, "sugar" and "cinnamon sugar", are on sale.

Looking at the surface, the round dough is melted and hard to see, but sugar is sprinkled on it. Indeed, it looks like fried bread. A soft and sweet scent comes.

(The sugar melts and you can't see it ...!)

The texture of the rumor is ... It's more chewy than I imagined, but it has a light texture. The texture and taste, which can be expressed as crispy, gave the impression that it was closer to a donut than bread. It's understandable that some people describe it as "fried donuts".

The dough itself is not sweet, and the sprinkled sugar is alive and well. Therefore, we recommend cinnamon sugar, which brings out the scent of cinnamon. It's not small, but you can eat as many as you like.

It was a pity that I couldn't eat the freshly fried melon because I brought it back to the office this time, and I couldn't fully enjoy the melon "crispy on the outside and soft on the inside". I should have tried the freshly fried food right after I bought it ... Reflection. Leonard's is a shop where "freshly fried" is a melon, so please come and join us.

◆ Cream-filled "puff"

Apart from the normal malasada, "puffs" with cream are also on sale. There are two flavors, "chocolate" and "honey cream", which are limited until the end of April.

Honey cream has a very strong honey flavor. Combined with the sugar on the outside, the sweetness is just right. Chocolate, on the other hand, has a bitter taste with less sweetness. The sweetness and bitterness were easy to eat, but I wish I could have felt the taste of chocolate a little more firmly.

In addition, it seems that "custard" is sold when the limited-time flavor is not sold.

By the way, there is a mascot character in the store. Since it is a store specializing in malasada, it may be a motif of malasada, but it looks like a potato to the author ... It seems that you can buy their goods at the store, so if you become a Malasada fan, please get it!
