I visited the cafe "Upstairs Sandwich" in the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo. We reviewed the "Shrimp and Avocado Oriental Sandwich," today's soup "Potage of Sweet Potato and Corn," and "Blended Coffee.

Upstairs Sandwich

The Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo is located in Koto-ku, Tokyo. As the name suggests, the "Sandwich Upstairs" is located on the second floor of the museum. It is available even if you do not visit the museum.


The interior is circular with the cash register counter and kitchen in the center. The seating is arranged like a corridor, with plenty of outside light streaming in through the wide windows.


Breads are lined up near the entrance like in a bakery, so customers take a tray of their favorite items and go to the checkout counter. Additional orders such as drinks can be placed here. If you only want a drink, you can go directly to the checkout counter.


The sandwiches lined up when I visited were four kinds of side dishes: "Basil Chicken Sandwich with Chicken Meat and Cream Cheese," "Pork Kimchi Sandwich with Melted Cheese," "Horse Mackerel Sandwich with Spicy Kinpira and Shiso Leaves," and "Oriental Sandwich with Shrimp and Avocado," as well as one kind of sweets: "Caramel banana and chocolate chip cream croissant. Salads and baked goods are also available.





This time, I ordered a shrimp and avocado oriental sandwich (720 yen) and a blended coffee (480 yen). I added a soup set (350 yen) from the set menu available only on weekdays from 10:30 to 14:30. The soup changes daily, and on this day it was the "Potage of Sweet Potato and Corn".


The cashier will ask you if you want to heat up your sandwich, so it is your choice. After paying, move to the pickup counter and wait for a while. When your order is called, you will receive a tray and go to an available seat.

Shrimp and avocado oriental sandwich

The bread is fluffy, chunky and voluptuous. Inside the sandwich are shrimp fritters, avocado guacamole, coconut-based mayo sauce and chili sauce.


The spicy and sweet flavors, the mild and mellow texture of the avocado, and the crispy texture of the shrimp are all combined in an Asian style for an unforgettable taste. It is also a hearty dish.

Creamy and rich. You can enjoy the rich flavor of sweet potatoes and corn blended with sweetness. You can enjoy what kind of soup you can find depending on the day.

Blended Coffee

A well-balanced coffee with a hint of acidity in the bitterness and richness. It goes well with not only side dishes but also sweet sandwiches. It is served in a To go cup, so you can take it with you if you can't finish it.
