Fruit tomatoes for comparison! Noble Violet, Premium Ruby, Sophia Orange, Shining Yellow, Emerald

Fruit Tomatoes - A Tomato Eating Comparison

I found some unusual tomatoes in the basement of Tokyu Toyoko store in Shibuya. They are fruit tomatoes called "jewels" (11 varieties in total) sold by Sudo Bussan. I decided to try a few and compare them.

Found!

I purchased five varieties: "Noble Violet," "Premium Ruby," "Sophia Orange," "Shining Yellow," and "Emerald. I received a gift pack with about 10 pieces of each type for a total of 1,800 yen (tax included). All are grown in Nagano Prefecture.

From left to right.

Noble Violet

Noble Violet is a purple tomato. When you put it in your mouth, it pops and bursts, first sour, followed by a refreshing sweetness that spreads softly. Not as sweet as a grape, but similar in texture!

Noble Violet

According to a pop-up displayed in the store, the sugar content is about 7 degrees.

Premium Ruby

Premium Ruby is a tomato with a deep sweetness that spreads out as soon as you bite into it. The sweetness is quite strong and leaves a "unique tomato flavor" in the back of your throat. Tomato lovers can't get enough of it! The size is generally smaller than other types.

Premium Ruby

The sugar content is about 8 degrees.

Sofia Orange

Sofia Orange is a tomato with a bright orange color. It is fresh and refreshingly sweet. Acidity is weak. The skin is thin but remains in the mouth until the end, so it may not be suitable for those who do not like tomato skin.

Sofia Orange

The sugar content is about 7.5 degrees.

Shining Yellow

Shining Yellow is a bright yellow tomato. It has a refreshing taste and leaves a faint acidity in the back of the throat. Compared to the others, the petiteness of the seeds was felt more strongly. The color, as well as the texture, makes it a good topping for salads.

Shining Yellow

The sugar content is about 7.5 degrees.

Emerald

Emerald is a bright green tomato. The flesh is quite firm and crisp. The flavor leaves a bitter taste. The size of each piece is large and very satisfying.

The sugar content is about 6.5 degrees.

Comparing the two, their tastes and textures are quite different! The "Premium Ruby" had the strongest tomato taste (and sweetness), the "Sophia Orange" had a moderate acidity, and the "Emerald" had a strong pulp texture. Give 'em a try if you're curious!
