Chestnuts have a very long history, and many chestnuts have been excavated from the Sannai-Maruyama ruins (Aomori Prefecture: approximately 5,900 to 4,200 years ago), a Jomon-era site. Chestnuts, which are in season as autumn deepens, have been loved by people since ancient times, so much so that they are synonymous with the taste of autumn in Japan. This year's Chestnut Fair will feature two types of shortcakes with chestnuts and Japanese tea cream.
