A fluffy, hot hamburger steak. Even if you want to eat them, it is a hassle to knead ground meat and make them by yourself. The savior for such lazy people (like me) is... chilled hamburgers from the convenience store!
Convenience Store "Hamburger Steak" Eating Comparison
7-ELEVEN, Lawson, and FamilyMart each sell hamburgers in chilled packs. So we compared hamburgers from the three companies to find out which one is the best!I purchased 7-ELEVEN's "Hamburger Steak with Homemade Demi-glace Sauce" (198 yen), Lawson's "Juicy Hamburger with Coarsely Ground Iberico Pork" (399 yen), and Famima's "Soft Hamburger with Demi-glace Sauce" (135 yen). The prices vary considerably, but... there is a bit of a turnoff at the end, which I will explain later.
Cooking in hot water or in a microwave oven
All of them can be cooked either in hot water or in a microwave oven. 7-ELEVEN and Lawson can be heated in the microwave with the package still in the microwave. Famima's microwavable food can be taken out on a plate, wrapped in plastic wrap, and put in the microwave. It takes a little time.7-ELEVEN "Hamburger Steak with Homemade Demiglace Sauce
7-ELEVEN's "Hamburger Steak with Homemade Demi-glace Sauce" is made with coarsely ground meat that loosely melts into a soft, tender texture. The more you chew, the juicier the sweetness of the melted fat spreads. The demi-glace sauce is rich and delicious! It tastes quite authentic and would be acceptable on a family dinner table!
LAWSON "Juicy Finished Hamburger Steak with Coarsely Ground Iberico Pork
LAWSON "Juicy Hamburger Steak with Coarsely Ground Iberian Pork" is a plump and meaty hamburger steak from LAWSON. Take a bite and you'll see... Yum!The texture is fluffy at first. It is soft and smooth to the touch when chewed. Although it has a slightly chilled taste, the umami and sweetness of Iberico pork can be felt well.
And the savory and rich demi-glace sauce! This sauce may be the closest to the restaurant taste among the three companies. As you would expect from the most expensive one....
Famima "Fluffy hamburger steak with demi-glace sauce
Compared to the other two companies, which require two and a half to three minutes to cook, Famima's hamburger steak takes only one and a half minutes to cook (although it does take some time to transfer the hamburger steak to a plate). The hamburger steak is delicious and tastes like meat, but it may be a bit like a side dish for lunch.I felt the texture was a little dry compared to other companies. It was a bit like a frozen hamburger steak that you can microwave and put in your lunch box. The demi-glace sauce was savory and tasty, but not too much. But for such a low price, I guess it was worth it.
But then, Famima had a hidden gem (?)! Teppan-yaki hamburger steak with special demi-glace sauce! (I found it at another store.) I'm sorry for the delay. I'll try it in a hurry.
This one can be cooked in the microwave in its package! At 348 yen per unit, the price is close to Lawson's, so it looks promising.
Eh, yum! The demi-glace sauce is authentic, with a deep richness, savory sweetness, and a hint of sourness. The plump hamburger steak is thick and juicy, and every time you bite into it, the juices that have been trapped inside flood out. It has just the right amount of elasticity and is exactly the kind of hamburger everyone loves!
The best tasting hamburger was...
So, I was worried until the end, but the most delicious one was Lawson's hamburger steak. I was torn between this and Famima's 348 yen hamburger, but I was hooked on Lawson's soft and fluffy texture. This is a matter of taste, so if you want more texture, you may prefer 7-ELEVEN or Famima's.I may not buy the Famima hamburger (135 yen) again because I couldn't cook it in the bag, but I would repeat the other three! They are tastier than I thought they would be, so why not use them as a side dish when you don't have time to cook?
