I tried Lotte's ice cream "Yukimi-dakko (Autumn Limited Otsukimi Tailored)". The golden rice cake looks like a full moon in this fun confection. The price at Family Mart is 162 yen (tax included).

Yukimi-dakufu (Autumn limited otsukimi tailored)

This is a seasonal product in which the standard Yukimi-dakufuku has been made into a moon-viewing style. It features a round, full moon-like appearance, and is prepared so that customers can enjoy a relaxing time with their Yukimi-dakufu while looking up at the full moon in the night sky.


A message from the character "Yukimi Usagi" is also hidden on the back of the package lid. Inside are two snow cones of the usual size. The color is a soft gold, perfect for moon viewing. When you insert a knife into the package, you will see a pure white vanilla ice cream peeking out.


When you pierce it with the skewer, you will enjoy the sweet aroma of vanilla and the smooth texture of the ice cream as well as the soft texture of the rice cake. The melting vanilla ice cream and the elasticity of the mochi complement each other, creating a gentle sweetness that is different from that of tsukimi dango at Japanese confectionery stores. If you would like to drink something to accompany the dumplings, hojicha tea is recommended. Warm tea also seems to be perfect on a cool moonlit night.
