Beef bowls, hamburgers, donuts, and other fast food chains are affordable and delicious ways to fill your stomach. When you visit during morning hours, you will be greeted by a slightly different crowd.

We have compiled a list of mornings at fast food restaurants that our editorial staff has eaten so far!

Hamburgers, chicken, sandwiches

McDonald's

McDonald's: The well-known McDonald's breakfast, "Asa Mac". The editorial staff compared the cheapest "Sausage Muffin" (100 yen including tax) and the most expensive "Big Breakfast Deluxe" (600 yen including tax). The former is a cosmetically superior item, while the latter is recommended for those who want to eat a hearty breakfast with an emphasis on volume.

Lotteria

LOTTERIA : Lotteria's morning menu was renewed in April 2018. One of the most recommended is the Tamagoyaki Burger. This burger sandwiches a whole plump and juicy egg yaki. The richness of the fluffy, springy egg, the flavor of the broth that oozes out, and the accent of mayonnaise all combine to make a delicious match!

Mos Burger

Mos Burger: Mos Burger's morning menu "Morning Mos". The editorial staff tried the "Morning Vegetable Burger" drink set (480 yen including tax). The burger is a sandwich of crispy and fresh lettuce, tomato, onion slices, and a patty. The small size is rather perfect for the morning.

Freshness Burger

Freshness Burger: "Morning Set" with a choice of pound cake or mini burger. The editorial staff has tasted the "Mini Cheeseburger" and "Rose Hip Tea" (430 yen without tax) from the Mini Burger Set. The burger is the size of the palm of your hand, but the soft bun, juicy patty, and melted cheese are all uncompromising and will fill you up from morning.

Burger King

Burger King: Burger King's breakfast menu is the "Croissant Switch. There are four types: "ham and cheese," "ham and egg cheese," "bacon and egg cheese," and "sausage and egg cheese." Prices range from 230 yen to 330 yen including tax, or 300 yen to 400 yen if you add a drink. The crispy, fluffy croissants are as delicious as a Western breakfast packed full of flavor.

Kentucky Fried Chicken

Kentucky Fried Chicken: KFC's store-only morning offerings include croissants baked in the store. Our editorial recommendation is the Croissant Sandwich (Ham & Egg) (350 yen with S drink, tax included). The crispy, buttery croissant and a generous portion of egg salad will satisfy your appetite.

Subway

Subway: This is a morning "morning sub" offered exclusively at Subway stores. From among three types of sandwiches, the editorial staff tried the "Clubhouse Sandwich," which is loaded with ingredients such as roasted chicken, bacon, and egg salad. With roasted chicken, bacon, and egg salad, this sandwich was a good source of protein for the morning.

Doughnut

Mr. Donut

Mr. Donut : The "Morning Miss Donut Gohan Set" includes your favorite donut, pie or toast (108 yen or more including tax) and your choice of drink. You can have as little as one donut, and drinks start at 170 yen including tax, so the cheapest breakfast is only 278 yen. Plus, if you make it a blended coffee, you get free refills! There are also non-sweet options such as ham and egg doughnuts and hot dogs to choose from.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts: KKD is offering a morning offer exclusively at the Atre Kawasaki store. When ordering a drink, a free "Original Glazed" donut is included. If you order a coffee S size, you can enjoy a set of donut and coffee for 270 yen (tax not included). For mornings when you want a quick bite.

Beef bowl, rice bowl, udon

Matsuya, Sukiya, Yoshinoya

Matsuya , Sukiya, and Yoshinoya: We compared the cheapest breakfast menus. Matsuya offers a "choice of a small bowl of rice with egg" (290 yen), Sukiya offers "tamakake breakfast" and "oshinko breakfast" (250 yen each), and Yoshinoya offers a "ham and egg set meal" (350 yen).

Each company offers different side dishes, including a choice of small bowls of natto (fermented soybeans) or tororo (grated yam), raw egg, and fried egg, but I think Sukiya is particularly cosy.

Nakau

Nakau : The rice bowl and udon chain Nakau offers morning set meals starting at 250 yen (tax included). The editorial staff had the cheapest "fried egg morning set meal. This set meal includes a fried egg with a half-boiled yolk, miso soup, and nori seaweed. The miso soup contains nameko mushrooms in abundance. Even at such a low price, I was able to fill my stomach.

Soba and Udon

Boiled Taro

YUDETARO : Two types of "Asa-soba" are available: "Oni Oroshi" with coarse grated radish on top, and "Tamago" with raw egg or hot spring egg on top. Each is priced at 330 yen (tax included). The soba can be served hot or cold, and comes with crispy, thick kakiage (can be changed to wakame).

This is still very cost-effective, but if you want more volume, there is also a morning set that includes soba and rice (360 yen including tax).

Fuji Soba

Fuji Soba : Fuji Soba's "Morning Soba" menu offers a choice of soba or udon, hot or cold, and kitsune or tanuki (320 yen including tax). In addition to wakame seaweed, green onion, and onsen tamago (hot spring egg), the kitsune is topped with fried bean curd and the tanuki is topped with fried egg. On a summer morning, the cold soba noodles with the melted egg yolk was the best.
