While autumn taste sweets are appearing one after another at supermarkets and convenience stores, I discovered "Witch's Pumpkin" sold by Hokkaido sweets maker "Ryugetsu". It is a pumpkin-flavored Baumkuchen that is said to be "more delicious than pumpkin". The price is 750 yen (tax included).
I was attracted to the cute package with the witch drawn on it and bought it!
● It looks just like a cut pumpkin!
There are 5 individually wrapped Baumkuchen in the box. When I opened it, a baum that looked exactly like a cut pumpkin appeared. Even the skin is reproduced properly!By the way, in the background of this product, there is a story that "a witch living in the forest made it for villagers suffering from poor crops", but this story is written like a picture book inside the box. It's a must read because it makes you feel at home.
● I tried it
The soft and moist baum has a gentle sweetness with plenty of eggs and butter. The skin is chocolate, and you can feel the slightly fragrant bitterness peculiar to pumpkin skin (because it's chocolate?). This is definitely the taste of pumpkin! The baum dough melts in your mouth and the chocolate on the skin is smooth, so your mouth won't feel dry at all! The soft pumpkin flavor is not too strong, so it matches the sweetness of Baumkuchen itself.
Rather than being "more delicious than pumpkin," it tasted different from pumpkin. It looks good for a little Halloween hospitality.
I got it at the Hokkaido product exhibition in the basement of a certain department store in Kanagawa prefecture. You can also buy it at the Ryugetsu online shop.
