Fuji Cider, Shizuoka Masked Melon Cider, Tomomasu Watermelon Cider, Soy Sauce Cider, Miyazaki Mango Cider, Ryukyu Awamizu Beni Imo

Cider has a pleasantly refreshing taste. There are probably many people who used to drink cider when they were children, but as they have grown older, they have been indebted to fizo-shu (sparkling wine).

I am one of them. I couldn't remember the last time I drank cider, even after a quick brain search, but one day I was in a supermarket and spotted a conspicuous display of local ciders! I was curious, so I tried to compare them.

The lineup includes six kinds of cider: Fuji cider, Shizuoka muskmelon cider, soy sauce cider, watermelon cider, Miyazaki mango cider, and Ryukyu awamizu beni imo flavor. I was surprised at the variety of flavors available.

Fuji Cider

Fuji Cider is based on the famous water "Fuji Mannensui" and is made in the image of Mt. Fuji. The sweetness of the cider is kept to a minimum to take advantage of the natural water ingredients. The purchase price is 167 yen (tax included, same below).

Fuji in a pale blue color. The label is lame and sparkles wonderfully from different angles.

The soft taste of natural water lingers in the mouth after the bubbles. The refreshing taste with a moderate sweetness allows you to fully enjoy the deliciousness of the water.

Shizuoka Muskmelon Cider

Shizuoka Muskmelon Cider is made from the juice of Aroma melons produced by the Shizunan Branch of the Shizuoka Greenhouse Agricultural Cooperative. The cider is said to be made from "first-class melons" in terms of taste and quality, which have been certified as a Shizuoka Food Selection. The price is 167 yen.

The melon fills the mouth with an elegant sweetness. It is not an artificial taste, but the deliciousness of the melon juice itself. It is a sheer pleasure to be able to enjoy the rich aroma and taste of a high-class melon so easily.

Soy Sauce Cider

Soy Sauce Cider is, as the name suggests, soy sauce flavored cider. Shodoshima soy sauce is used. The purchase price is 192 yen.

I thought to myself, "You can't make cider out of soy sauce," but I couldn't resist picking up this product. The "soy sauce color" would not look out of place in a bottle of soy sauce.

It looks like mentsuyu and barley tea.

The flavor of soy sauce spreads softly. The savory flavor of soy sauce and the sweetness of sugar match each other, just like the sauce of Mitarashi-dango (dumplings). It has a mild taste without any curd.

Incidentally, the label warns against imitating soy sauce cider and drinking soy sauce (the real thing) like cider. Please remember this cider when you feel like drinking soy sauce.

Watermelon Cider

Watermelon Cider is a cider made with watermelon produced in Kumamoto Prefecture. I like the design of the label and the fact that the lid is green to match the red cider, which also looks like watermelon. The purchase price is 181 yen.

Refreshing and tasty, filled with the freshness of watermelon. The juicy sweetness pops in your mouth along with the carbonated bubbles. It has a nostalgic taste that reminds me of summer vacations in my childhood. Adding a pinch of salt gives it a crispy taste that is perfect.

Miyazaki Mango Cider

Miyazaki Mango Ji Cider is a cider made with mango juice produced in Miyazaki Prefecture. The purchase price is 199 yen.

The mellow aroma and sweetness of mangoes are matched by the refreshing carbonation. The tropical flavor will fill your mouth. While I was in an office in the city, my mouth was transported to the tropics....

Ryukyu Awamizu Beni Imo Flavor

Ryukyu Awamizu Beni Imo Flavor is a local Okinawan cider made with Kumesen "Kubi no Moromi Vinegar" from Kumejima. The purchase price is 183 yen.

The aroma of sweet potato wafts from the moment the lid is opened. The taste is also full of red sweet potato. The rich sweetpotato flavor with a refreshing aftertaste is probably due to the moromi vinegar. It has a mild sourness, so it is recommended even for those who do not like the sourness peculiar to vinegar.
