Hattendo "Steamed Creamy Buns

Hattendo is famous for its "Creamy Buns. Have you heard of "Steamed Creamy Buns" available at some of Hattendo's stores?

Steamed Creamy Bun is a brown sugar flavored steamed bun filled with custard. It is a product that can be stored at room temperature and lasts for about 10 days, which is rare for Hattendo, which has many products that require refrigeration, including the Creamy Bun.

The product went on sale in August 2016. At the time of writing, in addition to the main store in Hiroshima, the product is available exclusively at four Hattendo stores in Tokyo (Ecute Shinagawa South, Ecute Ueno, Tokyo Station Keiyo Street, and JR Ikebukuro). Priced at 810 yen (tax included) for a pack of five.


Each individually packaged steamed cream bun. They are the perfect snack, about the size of a handful of Daifuku (rice cake).



The brown sugar flavored dough is moist and fluffy like sponge cake. It loosens softly, allowing the custard filling to "melt" and overflow.


The smooth custard is moderately sweet and has a rich egg flavor. The brown sugar flavor is intertwined with the custard, giving it a nostalgic taste.
