The Japanese baseball scene has been dominated by the news of Masahiro Tanaka, a.k.a. Ma-kun, moving to the major leagues. I wondered what kind of delicious food would greet Ma-kun in New York, the home of the Yankees, where he has agreed to join the Yankees. I took the liberty of doing some research for Ma, and found that an ice cream shop called "Big Gay Ice Cream," which was started by a gay couple, is the talk of the town! What kind of store is it?


The ice cream store started as a mobile ice cream store in New York City. Its signature menu item is soft-serve ice cream in a variety of flavors. The store is run by Douglas Quint and Bryan Petroff. They are a gay male couple who have been together for many years.

Quint was inspired to get into the ice cream business by a fellow member of his former orchestra, where he used to play the bassoon. In 2008, he borrowed a used ice cream truck from a friend and got into the business.


His partner, Mr. Petroff, supported him in this venture. After work, he would help out with the ice cream sales at night. Great love, love, love... Ice cream.

Since then, the store has exploded in popularity, and they have now officially opened their first store in New York City.


The ice cream sold at Big Gay Ice Cream, which the duo started, is unique in both menu name and toppings. There is the "Coco Cone," which is vanilla ice cream with curry-flavored coconut, and the "Mexican Afo "Gay" To," which is hot chocolate mixed with chili peppers and other spices.



The ice cream flavor seems to be well known, and the store is always crowded with customers. The store is said to be so popular that it will soon expand to Los Angeles, so I am sure Ma-kun will enjoy it as well. Good luck, Ma-kun, with all the delicious food in New York!
