Shizuya "SIZUYAPAN" in Kyoto - Delicious bean-jam buns with plenty of filling! Love the stylish packaging! Review of Ogura, Japanese chestnut, and green tea!

SIZUYAPAN is a brand of bread by Shizuya, a long-established bakery in Kyoto, that makes a great souvenir. I saw it at a supermarket in Tokyo and couldn't resist picking it up because of its cute packaging.

Shizuya's SIZUYAPAN

SIZUYAPAN was created in 2016 under the concept of "new Kyoto souvenirs for the 21st century. It currently has four stores in Kyoto and one in Hirakata City, and can be ordered through its website or at any Shizuya store.

The three items we obtained this time were Ogura, Japanese chestnut, and green tea. I actually tried each of them.

Smaller size

SIZUYAPAN Ogura

A standard product with a simple dough covering a large amount of sweet bean paste. The moist dough changes to a chewy texture as you bite into it.

The bean paste inside is smooth and the grains are not so strong. The sweet bean paste is smooth and light, and it moves with the dough, leaving a sweet and rich aftertaste.

SIZUYAPAN Japanese chestnut

Brown sugar filled dough with Koshi An (sweet bean paste) and Japanese chestnuts. You can enjoy the contrast between the moist and smooth Koshi An (sweet bean paste) and the crunchy Japanese chestnuts.

The Japanese chestnuts are boiled in sweetened soy sauce, which leaves a sweet and chewy texture. You can enjoy the texture of the chestnuts and the flavor that deepens as you chew.

SIZUYAPAN Green tea

The matcha dough is filled with matcha bean paste with azuki bean paste. The green color is also refreshing.

The matcha bean paste inside is smooth to the touch and rich in matcha flavor. The slightly bitter taste enhances the sweetness.

The luxurious filling is more like a Japanese confectionary than a bread. The stylish packaging makes it a perfect souvenir.

The price is 311 yen per piece (tax included), and the shelf life is 4 days including the day of purchase. It is sure to be a casual yet thoughtful souvenir.
