Now, we have discovered a local food in Fukushima Prefecture that offers a fascinating collaboration of doughnuts and rice cakes. It is called "Shimiten. It is sold at "Mochi-Dokoro Kinohata," a specialty rice cake store. The price is 150 yen (tax included).


Frozen rice cake is a deep-fried rice cake wrapped in dough like a doughnut. The rice cake inside is not ordinary rice cake, but rather "frozen glutinous rice cake," a preserved food made by drying rice cake mixed with mugwort and other herbs in the cold wind.

Frozen rice cake in paper wrappings is freshly fried and hot. The dough is crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The addition of the glutinous and stretchy frozen glutinous rice cake gives it a "crunchy, fluffy, and chewy" texture. This is addictive!

The green flavor of mugwort and the mild sweetness of anko (sweet bean paste) come together to fill your mouth. The normal frozen tempura and the one with red bean paste will fill you up, so it is a good idea to share the two.
