You can feel like an astronaut! I actually purchased and tried the "Space Food Pudding" sold by BCC. I bought it at the Kahaku Museum Shop of the National Museum of Nature and Science. The price is 540 yen per bag (tax included).

Space Food Pudding

Space Food Pudding is a freeze-dried pudding about 3 cm in size. It is said that the smooth melt-in-your-mouth texture of the pudding can be enjoyed. After opening the package, the oxygen absorber can be removed and the pudding can be eaten as is.


When you open the package, you will find three round yellow lumps inside. They look like ice cubes hardened in an ice machine.


There is no need to cook them, and they can be eaten as they are. When you put it in your mouth, you can smell the sweet custard-like aroma.


When you put it in your mouth and chew it a little, you will find that it has a light and crunchy texture. The sweetness is strong and the taste is indeed pudding ......! However, once chewed, it does not feel very smooth, giving the impression that you are eating a pudding-flavored candy. In the mouth, as the candy slowly dissolves, you can feel a slight thickening. It is like pudding or something else that resembles pudding ....... The aftertaste is unique and a bit strange.

What if you put it back in hot water?

Can't do it in space, but I decided to give it a try and put it back in hot water! When I soaked it in a small amount of hot water, it gradually softened as its surrounding crumbled. After absorbing plenty of water, I tasted it! The melt-in-your-mouth sweetness...it's pudding! It is natural since the pudding is freeze-dried, but it makes me a little happy.


It is manufactured using the same "freeze-drying method" as astronauts' space food, and although it is not actually served to astronauts, BCC's "Space Food Pudding" is a fun way to enjoy a similar feeling. It may be good for children's free research.
