Ibaraki Daruma Foods "Straw Chocolate Natto

Natto and sweets have unexpectedly collaborated. Straw Choco Natto" is sold by Daruma Foods in Ibaraki. It is available at "IBARAKI sense," an antenna store that sells "sensible and excellent products" from Ibaraki. The price is 594 yen (tax included).


Straw Choco Natto" is a product developed through a project with Art Tower Mito. The package was designed by designer Taku Satoh. Wrapped in straw is not brown natto...but chocolate.



Dry fermented soybeans are coated with chocolate and have a light texture with no stickiness. It crumbles to a crisp and spreads the mild sweetness of the chocolate. The first impression may be similar to chocolate-flavored cereals.


The natto (fermented soybeans) follows slowly behind. Even after the sweetness and richness disappear, the unique flavor remains on the tongue. The unusual baton change from chocolate to natto is a little strange and addictive.

Not only natto lovers, but also those who do not like natto now may become addicted if they try it. The unique packaging is also sure to become a topic of conversation.
