MUJI "Chai" Drinking Comparison
Chai" is a spiced milk tea. Here is a summary of four chai products found at MUJI.Chai
Chai" is a bottled drink made by combining Assam tea and milk to create a chai-flavored drink. It is priced at 150 yen (tax included, same as below). It is refreshingly sweet and moderately spicy. In a good sense, it is not too peculiar and can be enjoyed by those who are not so keen on too rich chai. It is also good as an after-dinner dessert.
Masala Chai" to be enjoyed at your desired strength
Masala Chai" is a powdered chai made by combining black tea, spices, and milk. 17g (0.6oz) (4 1/2 teaspoons) is poured into 140ml (4.73us fl oz) of hot water and mixed well. 1 bag is enough for about 7 cups. One bag contains about 7 cups. When hot water is poured, the sweet aroma of the chai tea rises softly. The mild flavor is followed by a hint of spice. It has a complex flavor with cloves, cinnamon, cardamom powder, ginger extract powder, and other ingredients. It is delicious enough to be made with hot water only, but if you want to enjoy a deeper flavor, we recommend using milk.
Rooibos Ginger Chai" to be enjoyed at your desired strength
Rooibos Ginger Chai" is a powdered chai modeled after Indian chai and made with rooibos. 16g (0.56oz) (4 teaspoons) is poured into 140ml (4.73us fl oz) of hot water and mixed well. 1 bag is enough for about 8 cups. Price: 350 yen.The elegant sweetness is followed by the refreshing aroma of rooibos. It has a full-bodied yet refreshing aftertaste. Masala chai from the same series is recommended to be made with milk, but I personally preferred to make the refreshing rooibos with hot water.
Chai Blend
Chai Blend is a black tea blend of cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves combined with Ceylon. To drink straight, steep the tea bag in approximately 140ml (4.73us fl oz) of hot water for 2 minutes before removing. Price: 390 yen.The rich flavor is calming and soothing with each sip. It leaves a mild astringent taste on the palate. It is not sweetened, but the aroma of cinnamon and other aromas make it satisfying.
To serve with milk, pour 110 ml of hot water into a cup containing the tea bag and heat in a microwave oven (500W for 30 seconds). Add 30 ml of warmed milk and sugar to taste. You can easily enjoy the authentic Indian taste.
Each of the four chai varieties has its own unique taste. The bottled type is for easy drinking, the powdered type is for tasting the "desired thickness," and the "chai blend" is for more authentic enjoyment with a little extra effort. We are glad that you can choose the one that best suits your taste and occasion.
