The McDonald's "expired meat" issue shocked the world. Some stores in Japan have also been struggling to regain the trust of consumers, with the disappearance of chicken-based menu items, an announcement on the official website regarding ingredient safety, and the release of " Tofu Shinjyo Nuggets" as a replacement for the chicken-based menu items.

In the midst of all this, McDonald's in Australia, on the other side of the equator across the sea, has created "McMate," a hamburger filled with what customers want to eat. The U.S. media Huffington Post reports.

According to the media outlet, McMate is a new menu item developed based on the concept of "A burger by the people. McMate Angus Beef" and "McMate Crispy Chicken," both of which were voted on by McMate fans on the official Facebook page.

So, what exactly was chosen as the key ingredient?

McMate Angus Beef" is a beef patty made from Angus beef, grilled onions, a slice of bacon, a slice of cheese, tomato, and lettuce. It is finished with garlic mayonnaise and BBQ sauce.

The McMate Crispy Chicken, on the other hand, is said to be made with a crispy chicken patty and the same vegetables and cheese as the McMate Augus Beef.

Both the beef and chicken are made from Australian domestic meat (source: McDonald's Australia official website).

Incidentally, the menu name "McMate" was also decided after a contest on Facebook. Australians often use the word "mate" in a friendly way. This campaign itself seems to have been conducted even before the expired meat issue was revealed, but is it really just a coincidence that a new product with this name was announced at this time?

At any rate, we hope that McMate will use safe and secure ingredients and that its hamburger will be loved by everyone so much that it will not lose out to its name.
