The restaurant's signature menu is the crispy, juicy, grilled "roast chicken." At the Hawaii main store, the menu is so popular that Americans who don't like to line up want to eat even if they make a line!
I want to go to Hawaii just because I feel like the editorial department of eating food, which is completely broken by the cold of midwinter! And I want to eat the hot roast chicken! So I decided to go to Maui Mikes.
■ Maui Mikes is located in Hakusan's student district
Maui Mikes is a 1-minute walk from Hakusan Station. It's right next to Toyo University, so it's a place where many young people come and go.
When you open the door of the shop, it's an island of everlasting summer! Comfortable Hawaiian music plays in the bright interior, which makes you feel as if you are in the sunshine of Hawaii, and the walls are decorated with Hawaiian miscellaneous goods, seashells, and pictures of beautiful beaches.
■ First, order at the counter
First, go to the order counter to get the roast chicken you are looking for. And behind the counter is ... a rotisserie machine that bake chicken! Inside, the chickens are spinning around!
This time, I ordered "Fire Roast Chicken" from the signboard menu and "Maui Wah Wimelt" from the sandwich menu. I chose potato fries for the sandwich garnish (rice, corn, and onion rings are also available). And for drinks, I ordered "Big Wave" recommended by the staff and "Primo Beer" which is the most popular in Hawaii.
Receive a drink at the counter first and take a seat. The shop has two floors, with table seats on the first floor and sofa seats on the second floor where even a large number of people can relax.
■ Hawaiian beer tastes like everlasting summer
While I was waiting for the chicken, I couldn't stand it and had a beer.
Big Wave is a refreshing and light beer with a citrus scent. Although it is beer, it has an orange-like sweetness and acidity, and it has a mysterious taste. This is a premonition that girls will love it too!
Primo beer, on the other hand, has a refreshing, fruity taste with less bitterness. It will be easier to understand if you imagine the taste of corona. It's a beer that feels refreshing and easy to drink.
■ Introducing the main dish!
As I was siping beer and immersing myself in happiness, chicken and sandwiches were finally brought in!
First of all, I will try today's main roast chicken. The lustrous body and mellow scent constantly invite the author's appetite.
The caramel-colored roasted skin is crispy and fragrant, with a smooth texture that overflows with fat the more you chew. Probably because it is roasted, there is no unpleasant greasiness.
The meat inside is packed with umami. The body is firm and juicy than I imagined. It's understandable that Americans eat side by side!
The chicken is slightly salty, so it's delicious enough by itself, but you can also eat it with the sauce that comes with it. I especially liked the barbecue sauce. It's smoky and may be the most delicious barbecue sauce I've ever eaten.
There are also seven other sauces, including honey mustard and chili.
Next, try the sandwich "Maui Waui Melt".
The fluffy and soft buns are sandwiched with loose roast chicken. On top of that, melted cheddar cheese is topped, and sweet honey mustard and mayonnaise are layered. The rich and mellow cheese has just the right balance between the sweetness of the sauce and the saltiness of the chicken. What a satisfying meal, both in taste and volume ... Hurray Hawaii! !!
