According to the media, American tourists visited Iceland's tourist destination, the glacial lake Fjallsárlón. They said they set up folding chairs and tables on the ice to enjoy the lake, glaciers, and icebergs while eating on the floating ice of the lake. Immediately after that, however, the ice broke and was washed offshore.

Pall Sigurour Vignisson, a local rescue team, explains what happened at that time:

"The ice was stable when five people got on it, but when they set the table and chairs, the wind changed and the ice was swept 10 to 15 meters offshore."

Vignisson rushed to see the scene and laughed.

"The sight was laughable. The five were sitting on chairs, surrounding a table on a small piece of ice, but the ice at their feet was always crushed or turned over. It wasn't strange, and they would have been thrown into a deep, cold lake. "

The five weren't scared at all when they were rescued.

"The travelers weren't scared at all. They were so calm, joking about things and laughing at them. It was hard to believe they were stuck on the ice for more than an hour. They didn't understand the risks they took, but rather seemed to think they had done something very cool. "

Vignisson says ice picnics should be banned.

"Picnics on ice are totally ridiculous. Ice behaves unpredictably. No one can predict how it will move next."
