Steamed Buns" Eating Comparison! Jumbo Mushi Cake (Kimura-ya), Mori no Tamago no Mushi Cake (Daiichiban), Mochimochi Tamago Mushi Pan (Famima), Hokkaido Steamed Cheese Cake (Yamazaki Baking Co.), Hokkaido Cheese Steamed Cake (7-ELEVEN)

Steamed buns are characterized by their soft texture, gentle sweetness, and egg color. There is nothing fancy about the filling, but the simple deliciousness of the steamed buns has won great support from some people.

Simple is Best

The reason why I can say this is because steamed buns are sold by various manufacturers and convenience stores. If they weren't popular, they wouldn't be produced all over the world. In this article, I would like to compare five types of steamed buns, examine the differences, and enjoy the fluffiness of steamed buns.

Into the soft world...

Steamed buns!

The five types of steamed bread (steamed cake) we purchased this time consisted of three plain steamed breads and two cheese flavors. The lineup consists of "Jumbo Mushi Cake" (Kimura-ya), "Mori no Tamago no Steam Cake" (Daiichiban), "Mochimochi Tamago Steamed Pan" (Famima), "Hokkaido Steamed Cheese Cake" (Yamazaki Seipan), and "Hokkaido Cheese Steamed Cake" (7-ELEVEN). Items other than those from Famima and 7-ELEVEN are purchased at supermarkets.

Compare 5 kinds of steamed bread (steamed cake)!

Comparison of steamed breads, plain category

Jumbo Mushi Cake Plain (Kimura) 99 yen

Jumbo Mushi Cake is a standard product of Kimura-ya. It looks small at first glance, but it's tall and heavy in your hand.

Kimura-ya "Jumbo Steamed Cake

I want to be sucked into the bubbles on the surface.

Fluffy and moist coexist, and the texture is as if it is absorbing. When you put it in your mouth, it softly unravels while spreading the moderate sweetness and gentle flavor of the egg.

Fluffy, moist, and irresistibly delicious.

The perfect balance of sweetness and flavor will keep you coming back for more. Even the air of the egg aroma rising from the air bubbles of the dough is delicious. I want to live inside it.

Mori no Tamago no Steam Cake (Daiichipan) 119 yen

A newcomer to the market this August, this steamed cake uses the brand egg "Mori no Tamago".

Daiichipan "Forest Egg Steamed Cake

This one has a smooth surface.

It is so moist and soft that it can be torn off just by holding it between your lips without using your teeth. The heat in your mouth will cause the fine texture to unravel and the sweetness to ooze out. It finishes with the richness of the egg and the sharpness of the mouth.

The sweetness and richness of the egg are strong.

Compared to Kimura-ya's Jumbo Steamed Cake, it has a stronger sweetness and egg flavor, and is recommended for those who like a rich taste. It is also a product that is less likely to get caught between the gums, a common problem with steamed bread.

Mocchi Mochi Tamago Steamed Bread (Famima) 103 yen

This is the only one of the five items I purchased this time that calls itself a "steamed" bun. Manufactured by Kobe-ya.

Famima "Mochimochi Tamago Steamed Bread

The surface has a smooth and slippery texture. The surface is smooth and smooth, but when you press it with your fingers, it has an elasticity that bounces back.

Smooth and elastic surface

When you bite into it, the texture is chewy and glutinous. The moist aroma from the air bubbles makes you feel as if you are in a steamer.

It tastes just like a steamed bun, plump and chunky.

The sweetness is moderate and could be a good accompaniment to a meal. The taste is quite different from the above two. I'd rather eat a nostalgic steamed bun than a fluffy sweet cake-like bun! I recommend it to those who want to have a nostalgic steamed bun rather than a fluffy sweet cake-like bun.

page Next, the cheese flavor category! Steamed Buns Comparison: Cheese Flavor Category

Hokkaido Steamed Cheese Cake (Yamazaki Baking) 124 yen

Hokkaido Steamed Cheesecake (Yamazaki Seipan) 124 yen This is probably the original steamed cake that became popular for being delicious when frozen.

Yamazaki Baking "Hokkaido Steamed Cheese Cake

So much for the oval shape.

The texture is soft and fluffy, and the texture is light and smooth, reminiscent of snow in Hokkaido. It has a light, smooth texture reminiscent of Hokkaido's snow, with a hint of rich cheese in the aftertaste.

Fine texture, fluffy like a soufflé.

It is moderately sweet and has an elegant taste that could be used as a sponge in a shortcake. It is similar to a soufflé, and the name "cake" is most appropriate.

Incidentally, when frozen, the richness of the cheese can be felt strongly, and the firm texture makes it taste just like a cheesecake. However, please note that the "fluffiness" typical of steamed buns will be lost.

Hokkaido Cheese Steamed Cake (7-ELEVEN) 90 yen

Lowest price of the five products at 90 yen (tax included). Manufactured by Fuji Pan. When you take it out of the bag, you can smell the rich aroma of cheese.

7-ELEVEN "Hokkaido Cheese Steamed Cake

Baked like a pancake

Compared to the fluffy Yamazaki one, this one has a slightly sticky texture and a more moist mouthfeel. The most notable feature is the rich cheese flavor! From the moment you put it in your mouth to the aftertaste, you can enjoy the flavor of cheese all the way through. Highly recommended for cheese lovers.

It's not half as cheesy as it sounds!

Conclusion

Although there were more differences than I expected when I compared them, I could taste the deliciousness and fluffiness of all of them without being disappointed. They are tasty and hearty, available anywhere for about 100 yen, and even if you get tired of them in the middle of the day, you can freeze them for a long time and enjoy a different taste. Steamed buns provide us not only with taste but also with peace of mind in many other ways. That is what steamed bread is all about.
