It is a new memory that Glico released a pop and catchy joke called "Curry-flavored Putchin Pudding " at this year's April Fool's Day. However, sweets that really tasted "curry" were released from a place that was completely unexpected. Its name is " Momotan Maharaja Curry Masala Flavor ".


"Momotan" is a bite-sized steamed bun sold as a "souvenir confectionery" by a national department store in Okayama prefecture. Since it was released in April 2013, it has gradually gained popularity and sold 100,000 units (!) In a year.

I was surprised that "curry taste" appeared instead of a joke. Immediately, I went to KITTE (Marunouchi, Tokyo), where you can buy motan in Tokyo, on the first basement floor of Kokukoshi Plaza.



There are four peaches in the box. When I opened the package ... oh ... it's coming, the smell of India is coming. Is this sweet or spicy? I'll try it.



The buttery flavored cake dough crumbles in your mouth and has a moist texture. The curry that was wrapped in it was ... oh? It certainly smells like curry powder, and when you try it, it definitely tastes like curry, but it's also sweet and delicious . This is mysterious!


Curry bean paste is said to be finished by adding curry spice, white miso, and fruit chutney to white bean paste, but spiciness and sweetness coexist in a well-balanced manner. It's not too curry, not too sweet, and we've succeeded in creating a “just right midpoint taste” that complements each other, Momotan! It's amazing, Momotan!


I also bought and ate "Caramel Apple Pie Flavor" and "Plum Shiso Flavor" which were released at the same time as the curry flavor, and both were refreshing and delicious.


Caramel apple pie has a spicy accent of cinnamon in the gentle sweetness of apples and the aroma of caramel. It's an adult taste.



Ume shiso, on the other hand, adds a refreshing aftertaste to the fruity and sour plums. The sweetness + sourness + leaf flavor may be a little closer to the taste of "Sakuramochi".
