Sunny Hills, a sweets brand from Taiwan, will sell "Banana Waffle Cookies," to be released on July 1. Priced at 700 yen for a pack of 2 cookies and 2,500 yen for a pack of 8 cookies (all tax included).

The mountainous region of Nantou County is located in south-central Taiwan. Mountain bananas are grown slowly and over a long period of time on this sloping terrain, which has a drastic temperature difference between day and night, abundant rain, and good drainage, and are characterized by their deep sweetness with a hint of sourness and rich aroma. The skin often breaks off when ripe, making it a rare variety that is rarely seen outside of Taiwan.

Banana waffle cookies

The sweetness and aroma of these mountain bananas are concentrated and the banana filling, made smooth with cocoa butter, is sandwiched between waffle cookies. It goes perfectly with hot coffee. When warmed over a cup of coffee, the banana filling slowly melds with the thin layer of caramel sauce, further spreading its rich aroma. The bitterness of the coffee enhances the richness of the caramel and the sweetness of the banana, giving it a different taste.


The packaging features a motif of dancing monkeys celebrating the birth of the banana waffle cookie. The lively limited-edition design will make you happy to look at it.

Only the 2-pack will be on sale at the Nagoya Takashimaya Department Store from June 23 to 28.
