MARUICHI BAGEL" at Shirokane-Takanawa

MARUICHI BAGEL is located about a two-minute walk from Shirokane-Takanawa Station. Maruichi Bagel is a bagel store that sells bagels made in the style of Essa Bagel, a famous bagel store in New York.


A variety of bagels are lined up in the show window. The basic Maruichi bagel (260 yen) is made from Hokkaido flour, yeast, rock salt, malt, and water, while the Onion (290 yen) is a plain bagel topped with dried onions.

You can buy bagels only, but we recommend making bagel sandwiches on the spot! You can choose your favorite bagel and ingredients to make your ideal bagel sandwich. I chose the "Everything (290 yen)" recommended by the staff, with egg salad, green pepper salt chicken, and cream cheese as ingredients. The price for this was 1,080 yen.


You can choose up to three ingredients for a single sandwich. You can order the sandwiches left or right, up or down, how the ingredients are sandwiched, and even how they are cut, so you can mix and match the flavors of the ingredients or enjoy the taste of each ingredient. The friendly staff will give you advice on recommended combinations and cutting methods.


If you order a drink, you can use the To go space on the third floor. This is a great place to take a break.

Even half a bagel sandwich is a generous portion!

The bagel is glutinous and hard to chew, and filled with ingredients. The green pepper salt chicken is especially delicious, with the crispy texture of the green pepper combined with a good amount of bitterness and saltiness from the salt!


Everything is made with sesame seeds, poppy seeds, onions, garlic, and rock salt, which adds a nice savory flavor and texture. Both the bagel and the ingredients are very hearty, and even just eating half of it is quite satisfying. You may want to share it with someone.

Azuki Butter Sandwich

Also recommended is the sweet bagel sandwich, the Azuki Butter Sandwich! Azuki beans and unsalted butter sandwiched on a rice flour bagel is a favorite of many fans. Half-size bagels are 450 yen each.


Overall, the sweetness is moderate. The presence of the beans in the azuki beans combined with the richness of the unsalted butter gives it an addictive taste. The rice flour bagel is chewy and goes perfectly with the soft azuki beans. It's a delicious treat that you will want to eat regularly.
