Easy "candy toast" recipe
Ingredients
Here is what you need to prepare. (This recipe is based on a recipe from Thornton's.) 1 slice of bread1 slice of bread (5-6 slices)
1.5 tablespoons of syrup
Butter or margarine to taste
Directions
Spread butter or margarine on bread.Spread the syrup over the top of the bread.
Toast them in the toaster for about 3 minutes and they're done! The key is not to toast the bread before spreading butter or syrup on it, but to toast it afterwards.
How does it taste?
The surface is crispy and crunchy, and the more you bite into it, the more the syrup melts and the more plump it becomes. The butter that had been coated and trapped in the candy can be seen flowing out with each bite. It is sweet and savory, like a soft rusk!
If the syrup is hardened, such as during the winter, melt it in hot water before spreading it on the bread.
