"Vegan" pancakes that are fluffy, moist and chewy without the use of eggs, cream or butter. I have tasted it at "Ain Soph Journey" in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

Vegan is a way of life that does not use animal food. Although it originated overseas, restaurants and cafes like the Ain Soph Journey have come to be found here and there in Japan.

The location of the shop is just a stone's throw from Exit C5 of the subway "Shinjuku Sanchome Station". You can easily find it if there is a pancake sign next to the entrance. There was a line when I passed by before, but today I passed through the door smoothly.

The atmosphere inside the store is relaxing. It seems that many customers come by reservation.

Try drinking water first

Water that is casually placed on the table. I drank it casually because my throat was dry, but it has a refreshing flavor. According to the shop staff, it is flavored with lemongrass and pineapple. When I put it in my mouth again, I could feel the aroma and sweetness of fruits and herbs.

After calming down, open the menu. There were hayashi rice and curry rice that did not use meat, but I still order pancakes. The price is 1,620 yen (tax included) and it takes about 15 minutes. When I was looking at the souvenirs in the store, I arrived.

Fluffy and moist arrived

Two round pancakes on the plate. It has plenty of cream and jam on top, as well as ice cream, and is served with bite-sized seasonal fruits.

When I put a knife in the pancake, it feels very fluffy, and when I put it in a pancake, it is very moist. When I asked the shop staff how they got this texture other than butter, they said that they added "vegetable cheese" to the ingredients.


Next, add pure white cream to the pancakes and taste it. The soft whipped tongue is just like fresh cream. Also, when I asked the shop staff, they said that they used soy milk. It has no habit and goes well with decorative nuts or blueberry jam.


The flavor of the ice cream is ram raisins. The scent and sweetness of Western liquor are good, and it is as delicious as the one using eggs and dairy products. The accompanying fruits are fresh and you can enjoy colorful flavors from figs to berries.


As a whole, it seems to be a craft that has thought out how to make delicious pancakes without using animal ingredients. The volume is enough for lunch, but there is also a set with a food menu such as salad. If you are confident in your stomach, you may try it.
