"THE Original PANCAKE HOUSE" is a pancake shop famous for "Dutch Baby". The second store in Japan, "Harajuku Store," will open on March 27th on the 8th floor of Q Plaza Harajuku (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo). Not only can you enjoy a wide variety of pancakes, but we have also started offering a new dinner menu. I ate a limited menu that can only be eaten at the Harajuku store!


● What is The Original Pancake House?

The Original Pancake House is a long-established pancake chain store founded in 1953 in Portland, Oregon, USA. There are 124 stores nationwide. The first store in Japan, " Kichijoji store, " opened in June 2013, and there was a long line.

The signature menu is "Dutch Baby", a German pancake (German pancake). Other offerings include a variety of pancakes, waffles, crepes and egg dishes.

The Harajuku store, which will open this time, will start offering a new dinner menu and alcohol menu.

● After all I like "Dutch Baby"

While saying "Dinner menu ...", I have to eat "Dutch Baby" when I come to The Original Pancake House.


Dutch baby is eaten by sprinkling whipped butter, lemon, and powdered sugar on German dough that has been baked in an oven like a deep plate. The outside of the dough is crispy and the inside is thick. The sourness of the lemon refreshes the aftertaste.


If you don't have enough sweetness, sprinkle with maple syrup! You can enjoy the rich sweet and sour taste with lemon.


Actually, it seems that it has been renewed a little. It seems that the border has become a little higher and the fabric has become thicker. It feels more chewy than before, and the response to eating is improved. Also, the taste after it has cooled is much better, so you can eat it without hassle. Of course, not to mention the deliciousness of freshly baked.

● Sweets are American size, but I want to eat a lot!

Dutchie Baby, the sweets at the store are quite large. But it's delicious, so I want to eat a lot.

The unique pancake "Apple Pancake" is also recommended. It looks more like an apple pie than a pancake. There are apples in the same German dough as Dutch baby, and there are plenty of apples with cinnamon spicy on top! The chewy dough that is soaked in the umami of the fruit juice is fresh.



● Dinner menu with wine

After enjoying the pancakes first, we will finally have the dinner menu for this time. It's a Japanese original that isn't offered in American stores.

The main is a hot grill menu using a staub pot. Among them, "Spare rib barbecue sauce with bone" is a dish that you definitely want to have as the main dish for dinner.


As the menu name suggests, the menu is made by grilling bone-in spare ribs. The scent of steam stimulates your appetite. Meat that has been cooked until it becomes slightly tender will be separated from the bone by simply pulling it lightly. The faint sweetness of the barbecue sauce is also exquisite. I ate it in no time.


And, when you eat meat, you want alcohol. Looking at the menu, I found a lot of wine. After all it will be red for meat. I ordered a glass of red wine, which was quite delicious and I was surprised. The taste of the body and the spicy spiciness are perfect for meat dishes! I didn't expect much, "It's a glass ...", but I was disappointed. Beer is also available, but be sure to taste the meat with wine.

Now, let's get back to cooking. The appetizer "French fries" and "4 kinds of cheese platter" are also lineups that make you want to drink wine. The impactful "marinated whole onion" is also perfect for wine with the mellow taste of balsamic vinegar. It wasn't as soft as it looked, and the texture remained, so it was like eating a salad.


● Good location to enjoy the night view

At the Harajuku store, most of the audience seats face the windows, so you can enjoy your meal while admiring the scenery. Of course, a nice night view at night.

Although it is a sophisticated space, it has a casual atmosphere that is not too moody, so it is also a point to feel free to enter. There is also a counter seat where you can sit comfortably by yourself. However, I have to be quite hungry to eat alone! It's a big dish, though.


By the way, you can order pancakes even at dinner time. It would be nice to have a night cafe while gazing at the glittering night view. For me, I'm happy to be able to drink alcohol. The combination of wine and pancakes (especially apple pancakes!) Is happy.


The Original Pancake House Harajuku store will open at 11:00 on March 27th. Normal business hours are from 10:00 to 22:00 (last order 21:00), and dinner time is from 17:00. It seems that there are 80 seats, but will there be a line for a while?
