Nowadays, the pancake boom of one time has settled down, and pancakes are becoming one of the daily foods. There are famous stores all over the country that have not been visited yet. This time I came to "Cafe Arrietty" in Shichijo, Kyoto. It is a popular restaurant that has won ★ 3.70 in Tabelog and is in the TOP5000 (at the time of writing the article).

The shop is about a 10-minute walk from Shichijo Station and is very close to the Kyoto National Museum.


The lineup includes simple plain pancakes, "chocolate banana pancakes", "reward pancakes" with plenty of fruits, and pancakes made with seasonal ingredients.

But here is Kyoto. I ordered "rich matcha pancakes" (900 yen including tax) like a tourist (?). You can choose either black honey sauce or matcha sauce as the topping, so this time I decided to use matcha sauce to make matcha.

Since pancakes are made from dough after ordering, it usually takes about 20 minutes to complete. It can take 40 to 50 minutes when it's crowded! But it's so popular because it's worth the wait. It is a good idea to be prepared for a certain amount of waiting time and visit with plenty of time.


The freshly baked pancakes that have been brought in after waiting for a while are so soft that they tremble when the plate is shaken! The dough kneaded with matcha is so fluffy that it gets steamy, and the matcha ice cream and whipped cream on top gradually melt with the heat ... wait, I'll eat it now ...!


The thick fabric has a perfect balance of "fluffy" and "mochimochi"! It hits your mouth softly, but when you chew it, it melts softly. You can see that it is carefully baked!


When you spread the bittersweet matcha dough with the melted and soaked matcha ice cream, your mouth will be filled with the scent and umami of matcha and you will be happy! The matcha sauce is thick and rich, and the spreading scent is even deeper.


When the milky whipped cream melts and entangles with the triple matcha of dough, ice cream and sauce, it changes to a mellow and rich matcha milk flavor, which is also delicious. The pancakes are made up of two layers and have a lot of volume, but with a fluffy mouthfeel and a gradation of taste that you won't get tired of until the end, you can make one dish.


Pancakes will end as soon as they are sold out. The author visited on weekdays, but when I contacted him by phone in advance, he said that it might be sold out around 16:00. If you're looking for pancakes, it's a good idea to call before visiting the store or visit early!
