Jagamel, boxed
Do you know Jagamel?

Do you know the "handmade caramel jagamel" sold at Nagasaki Airport? A mysterious sweet that combines "caramel" and "potato". At Nagasaki Airport, it's so popular that it's a staple.

When you try it, the caramel that melts in your mouth melts softly. All that remains is the crappy potato chips. It has a crunchy texture and a slight saltiness. The first is caramel and the aftertaste is potato chips. "Sweet" and "spicy", exquisite sweetness, and likely to be addictive.

This "handmade caramel jagamel" is handled by "Okita Confectionery", a long-established Japanese confectionery store founded in the first year of the Taisho era. In fact, Nagasaki Prefecture has the second largest potato production in Japan after Hokkaido. It took about 6 years to develop souvenirs using local potatoes, and it was released in 2011.

The mixed potato chips are non-fried. It seems that potatoes in Nagasaki prefecture are better suited to be baked than to be fried in oil. It takes about 10 minutes to fry, but it takes 1 hour to bake in an oven.

It has a gentle handmade taste.

It is usually sold only at Nagasaki Airport, but you can also purchase it at the "Furusato Omotenashi Shop" in Kyobashi Edglan (Chuo-ku, Tokyo) for a limited time until December 25th. In addition to this, the store also has products that have won the OMOTENASHI Selection 2016. It may be interesting to look for "special" in Japan.
