Recently, popular sweets shops from Taiwan have opened one after another in the Harajuku / Omotesando area. I love Taiwan because people are warm and the food is delicious, but if you can enjoy such Taiwanese sweets while you are in Japan, you can't just look at them silently!

That's why the En-Eating Editorial Department is going on a "Petit Taiwan Gourmet Tour" where you can enjoy Taiwanese sweets in Tokyo! The first place I went to was "Sunny Hills," a popular "pineapple cake " store that opened its long-awaited first store in Japan in Minami Aoyama last December!


If you walk a little less than 10 minutes from Omotesando Station, you will find a shop on the way downhill. The figure that soars in the middle of Minami Aoyama in the sunlight is exactly "Sunny Hills"!



When you enter the store, the inside looks the same! There are wooden cloths on the walls and ceiling, and it feels like you're in a museum.


Of course, my aim is pineapple cake. However, there are no show windows or cash registers on the first floor. Oh? Where can I buy the cake ...

The clerk said, "Please go upstairs," so I went upstairs. Then, there was a space like a home cafe where the sunlight shines through the wide windows!


The clerk said, "We are offering pineapple cake and tea to everyone for free. If you like, how about it?" What a hospitality spirit ...! Yes, of course!

When I sat down at the table in the middle of the floor, the clerk offered me an oolong tea and a pineapple cake. Wow ... nice! !!


Oolong tea has an authentic taste that is boiled from authentic tea leaves. I don't know ... It's not "oolong tea" with a bitter and healthy image, but "oolong tea". There is no bitterness, and the fruity scent is even slightly sweet.

Pineapple cake is a sweet that is packed with pineapple pulp jam in a moist cake dough that is about 5 mm thick. It doesn't taste any extra because it doesn't use any additives.


The simple and gentle natural sweetness of the dough with plenty of butter and the pineapple jam that has been slowly boiled down to remove the water spreads in your mouth. I was surprised that there was no “pineapple feeling” like juice that I had imagined. This is the taste of Taiwanese mothers.


I was impressed with the hospitality and the deliciousness of the pineapple cake, so I bought a cake box containing 5 pieces as a souvenir. The price was 1,500 yen.


Inside the box are 5 individually wrapped pineapple cakes. Those who return to their parents' home during Golden Week will be pleased if they buy it as a souvenir!


By the way, in Taiwan, the second Sunday in May, which is the same as in Japan, is Mother's Day. It seems that the whole family gathers at their parents' home and celebrates grandly, and it seems that there are many people who buy pineapple cake as a souvenir for homecoming!
