PARM", "Ghana", and "GOLD LINE" look just like each other! Differences in the thickness of chocolate and ice cream, mouth feel, non-fat milk solids, milk fat content, eggs, and other ingredients!

Three very similar ice creams to compare!

Morinaga "Palm", Lotte "Ghana", and Meiji "GOLD LINE". As many of you may have noticed, these three ice cream products look similar, don't they? They are all bar-type ice cream bars made of vanilla ice cream coated with chocolate.

This time, our editorial department compared these three similar products! We looked for differences, and found that the thickness and mouth feel of the chocolate and ice cream were distinctly different.

Morinaga "PARM", Lotte "Ghana", and Meiji "GOLD LINE" ice cream were compared!

Parm and Gold Line were for individual servings, and Ghana was only available in a box, so I bought this one. Only Ghana is a little more than half the size of the others.

Smaller Ghana in the left foreground

When I put them side by side again, they are almost identical in appearance (except for size). A peek at the specs of each...

They are all "ice cream" by type. I see that the Gold Line has a bit more nonfat milk solids (solids from milk minus milk fat) and milk fat than Palm and Ghana. Also, Ghana is egg-free.

Now let's try it.

PARM

The first one is Parm. The vanilla ice cream inside is whiter and fresher than the other two. It has a refreshing milk flavor without any peculiarities.

What is also worth mentioning is how well the chocolate melts in the mouth. Even right after taking it out of the freezer, the chocolate does not crack when you bite into it. The chocolate goes through your teeth smoothly, melts slowly on your tongue, and the aroma of cacao and sharp bitterness become stronger as you bite into it.

Ghana

Next is Ghana. When you bite into it, the chocolate cracks open. The richness of vanilla spreads first, followed by the bitterness of the chocolate, but the flavor of the vanilla ice cream remains strong. Also, the vanilla ice cream had a unique flavor not found in the other two products. Is it vegetable oil or fat?

GOLD LINE

The last one is Gold Line. Like Ghana, the chocolate cracks when you bite into it. The chocolate is a bit thin, but the 36% cocoa content gives it a strong bitter and rich flavor. The vanilla ice cream is also rich, and the chocolate flavor is just as strong as the vanilla ice cream.

The most delicious was...

Personally, the most delicious was the Palm. It was the smoothest and melt-in-your-mouth texture, and the refined taste of chocolate and vanilla intertwined in a perfect balance made a good impression. The ice cream is so refreshing that you will want to eat it even in the hot summer.

I like you best.

Ghana has a slightly stronger vanilla ice cream claim. The Gold Line is rich in both vanilla ice cream and chocolate, and is very satisfying to eat. Would you rather eat it in the fall or winter? Of course, all three were delicious in their own way!

It is not easy to find supermarkets and convenience stores that carry all three ice cream products, but if you see them, why don't you try them and compare them?

Product information is current at the time of writing.
