Haagen-Dazs "Aged Vanilla with Mellow Fragrance"

"Aged Vanilla with Mellow Fragrance" was released by Haagen-Dazs on August 1. This vanilla ice cream is made from "aged vanilla ingredients" and is a bit more expensive than regular vanilla ice cream, and the packaging has a luxurious feel.

I was curious to see how it differed from regular vanilla ice cream, so I compared the two!


This time, I procured it at a local convenience store. The price was 351 yen (including tax) for the regular vanilla and 383 yen (including tax) for the "Aged Vanilla with Mellow Fragrance".

ingredients, the ingredients are almost the same, with the only difference being that "nonfat milk solids" is higher in "Vanilla" and "egg fat" is higher in "Aged Vanilla with Mellow Fragrance". The contents are 110 ml for the usual vanilla and 100 ml for the aged vanilla; one serving contains 244 kcal for the former and 226 kcal for the latter.



The color of the ice cream is almost the same. Now, when I compare them both...


Ahhhh...! They are different! Totally different! It's the same vanilla ice cream...!

The aroma of vanilla that wafted through my nose was fresher and deeper than that of the aged vanilla, and I felt a gorgeousness that spread quickly and a lingering aftertaste that lasted for a long time. The aroma was so delicious...!


The taste is also different. Aged vanilla is sweeter and has a lighter aftertaste. The rich milkiness does not linger in the mouth. Comparing the two, the usual vanilla has a stronger rich milk flavor, and I felt a strong "milk taste".

Conclusion

: The usual vanilla has a stronger taste than aroma, while the aged vanilla has a stronger aroma than taste. Aged vanilla is rich in aroma but light in taste, so it is suitable for hot summer.


Personally, I preferred the taste of the aged vanilla to the usual vanilla. If the price was about 30 yen different, I would probably buy this one! But I think this really depends on the person's taste. I usually don't like to eat vanilla ice cream, but this aged vanilla ice cream made me want to buy and eat it willingly.
