I actually heated up a rice ball and a canned coffee with the "Morian Heat Pack Heating Set!" Hot food and drinks, even in an emergency!

Morian Heat Pack Heating Set

The "Maurian Heat Pack Heating Set" is sold by Kyodo. This set includes a heating agent and a heating bag, and is a convenient item that can be used to heat cold retort foods and beverages anytime and anywhere by adding a small amount of water.

Morian Heat Pack Heating Set

The author purchased the Maurian Heat Pack Heating Set (M size). The set includes 3 heating agents (M size) and 1 heating bag (M size). The purchase price is 950 yen (tax included). The L size set, which also includes 3 heating agents (L size) and a heating bag (1 L size), is also available, with the number and amount of foods that can be heated depending on the size.

Approximate heating capacity for size M

Incidentally, the standard heating capacity of the M size includes approximately 300 g of retort pouch food, 200 g of packed rice, 2 cans of canned beverages, 2 cans of canned food, and 2 onigiri rice balls. This time, we prepared two onigiri (rice balls) and two canned coffees and actually heated them.

How to use the Morian Heat Pack

1. Open the heating agent bag and remove the contents.

Since the opened empty aluminum bag is used as a lightweight cup of water for heat generation, please open the bag along the cut edge when removing the heating agent. The heating agent should be used within one hour after opening the aluminum bag, as moisture absorption will affect the heating performance of the heating agent.

Don't throw away the bag!

Place the heating agent flat on the bottom of the heating bag.

Open the zipper of the heating bag, place your hand inside and spread the bottom part firmly, and make sure the heating bag stands up before inserting the heating agent.

Make sure the bag stands firmly.

3. Place food or other items on top of the heating element.

Place the food and heating agent so that they overlap at the bottom. Be careful not to have the food unbalanced or the center of gravity too high, as the heating bag will easily fall over.

Add foodstuff

To avoid direct contact with leftover water (harmless but not to be drunk) used for the heating agent, food should be wrapped in plastic wrap, aluminum foil, etc. before heating (wipe cans, etc. thoroughly before drinking). Wrapping food in small portions and heating it will help it warm up more easily.

4. fill the measuring cup (aluminum bag) with water up to the inside water line and pour into the heating bag

The amount of water must be kept to the prescribed amount. The water used can be tap water, well water, mineral water, as well as river, pond water, or rain water. However, seawater is not acceptable.

Water, drop!

Close the zipper of the heating bag immediately.

Since heating begins as soon as the water is added, close the zipper securely, being careful to avoid burns.

Note that during heating, hot steam gushes out from the hole in the top of the bag. Hydrogen gas is also generated with the steam during heating. Never keep fire away from the product as it may ignite.

Steam is gung-ho.

6. remove food after heating is complete

When heating is complete, remove the food, being careful not to burn yourself. Food will be warm in about 15-20 minutes. (Heating time and temperature may vary slightly depending on the temperature at the time of use and the temperature of the food to be heated.

Beware of burns

Results of heating

To conclude first, both the onigiri and the canned coffee were successfully heated! The wrapped onigiri was moist and warm, and the canned coffee warmed to a temperature that made it difficult to grip.

It warmed up quite well.

Key Points for Heating

After trying it out, I felt that the key points are "not to overcrowd the food" and "to increase the surface where the food and heating element come into contact" in order to warm up the food properly. If there is not enough surface in contact with the heating element, the heat may be unevenly distributed. Be careful how you place the food.

Incidentally, used heating agents can be disposed of in the same way as disposable body warmers after the temperature has cooled sufficiently, in accordance with local waste sorting regulations.

The "Morian Heat Pack Heating Set" will be useful not only in emergencies when fire and electricity are not available, but also in camping and picnics. It is an item that should be kept in a disaster prevention backpack in case of an "emergency.
